Hi guys,
Would like a bit of advice please. Have been airsofting for a couple of years now using modern kit. I recently became a friend of the tank museum and following a ride in 'Harry' the Sherman started aquiring a period US Tank uniform. That got me looking into themed airsoft and eventually led me here.
To the point I here you shout
Which of the following weapons would you recommend for general WWII skirmishing.
TM Thompson, reliable aeg.
Marushin M1 Carbine NBB single shot high FPS
Marushin M2 Carbine (my favourite at the moment)
Marushin M1 Garand.
I will state that I love the look & realism of the Marushins and have been edging towards an M2.

So in a nutshell, can the Marushins, M2 in particular, be used effectively in a skirmish or should I go for the TM Thompson. I suppose an alternative would be to buy an M2 and then when the chinese bring out a Thompson clone buy that as well :D

Thompson, the rest are gas & may not work as well in cold weather, A Thompson with a mild tune is what I recomend, full auto & will fire all day on a large battrey even at zero degrees C, the 450 hi caps work a treat,

Thanks Ste.D
A Thompson would be the sensible & practical solution, but I love the way in which the gas guns work.
I'll see if anyone turns up with a Thompson or a Marushin at GZ this weekend and ask if I could have a go.

Your problem with the Marushin guns is the power... it actually may be too powerful for a lot of sites.

I'd definately recommend getting a Thompson first and then one of the Marushin guns if you feel the need!

The M2 is post war, though the near enough is good enough rule takes care of that.

Gotta be the Thompson by a mile. Reliable, excellent performance, decent size hicaps - cant say anything bad about it really :)

Kameraden , you are giving this Ami the wrong advice.
To be a good GI just get a TM 1911, thats all you'll need , you don't need an AEG at all bud 8)

Poacher,
M2 was used in WWII, entered into service October 23 1944 to be precise. To be fair it was only in relatively small numbers and did not see widespread use until the Korean War and was still in use in the Vietnam conflict.

Oh well, looks like the safe bet is a TM M1A1

Hey, 'nother thought, how about converting the AGM M14 to an M1 Garand, do you think it's possible?

Thanks for all the advice
:D

I know what you mean about the Chinese, they will possibly have an M1A1 or even a Garand in the not too distant future. I have just been looking at a review on the AGM MP40. Now that is a nice looking weapon.
mmmm..... perhaps I should switch to the dark side?

Indeed it was me with the nice kit. :p (cheers guys)

The chap in the states is now making the Garand's fitted onto a Chinese copy M14 for $575.00 plus shipping. Not bad I think. The kit was $300 + $22 shipping. They look a little like this:

Oops, that's done it :?
Just ordered an MP40 from gunners & 4 mags from rsov.
Think I'll have to buy a camo smock just to start off with then add all the other bits as funds allow.
Because of my connections with The Tank Mueseum I'll probably go for some sort of Panzer impression. Might get a cabby if PzIII or Tiger 1 roll out!!

I know the Tiger has a rack for the MP40 in the Turret, did the crews carry standard belt kit or did they have an 'over the shoulder MP40 mag carrier/pouch?

Those M1 conversions look pretty good maybe the long haired general will let me get one in the future.

Yes Bovington. I was fortunate enough to be able to assist in taking the engine out of PzIII last friday and towing Tiger 131 out of the museum to enable it's engines to be started.

Yeah but aparently the only thing that makes the new m2 an m2 is the mag. the full auto capability and selector switch are apparently missing, making it an M1 with a big mag(or a ruger 10/22 with a wooden body)

But i agree with evryone else in that the gas m1 aint too good, but its down to the 8mm bbs not FPS. they work well in winter with most gas and iv chronod it at quite low FPS outside using 134a and a nice 450fps using propane and a few things besides using different gasses outside in the cold. But most sites say that being hit by an 8mm bb hurts more than a 6mm. Sorry did i hear you right?

If an 8mm bb travelling at 250fps weighing .27 g is .7j and a 6mm bb travelling at 275 fps weighing .20g is also .7j then surly the 8mm will hurt less because it has a larger impact area meaning the surface presure is less, witch if i paid attention in the science lessons mean less pain? If I have got it wrong please correct me.

Aparently they also slow down more due to the larger wind resistance and hence will be moving slower at longer ranges anyway... or so I've been told!

Basically the rarity of 8mm means that many sites are just unwilling to risk it because they don't understand 8mm or have no experience of it... Thats all there is to it!

You can't blame 'em really, its their necks if it goes tits up!!
