Thanks for the compliment! I got the heatshield (which came with the bayonet lug) from UnCompany, who, very occassionally, stock Tanaka spares. Good luck with your project.

Its a pain

best thing is do what i did and just make the riot version and then keep a close lookout on militeria and deac sites for spares.

eventually d and b militeria came up with 2 both dogey (one split the other had 2 ris rails on)

but looks ace now

Anyone have a spare I could borrow to see if it's copyable?

I'd say get a cheap springer and strip the heatshield off. You can get them for about £20 and the heatshield is metal. They come up even cheaper on forums every so often.

I've put that one on mine. However the shipping/customs were insane. Also the shield itself was heavily warped, and the holes aren't alligned symmetrical wit the barrel. Lots of cutting and sawing involved to get It right. It weighs a ton though, and holds a bayonet very firmly. But I wouldn't buy It again knowing all the cost/work now.

An update on the cheap-ass plastic shotgun...it broke in two at the weekend :( We got through two of them on the same day. So on the plus side, I now have a heat shield that I may try and work out how to fit to a slightly better quality shotgun. But I'd advise against going with the cheap springers now.
