I'm curious as to the choice of 2nd pattern Denisons. There were not too many seen at Arnheim, the photos mostly show 1st pattern. There were a good number of 2nd pattern seen on glider pilots but most of First Airborne wore 1st pattern.
It wasn't until Varsity that there was any number of 2nd pattern to be seen and that was with 6th Airborne of course.
If anyone needs a pair of jackboots I have a cut down pair of M/C boots that will pass. Size 10 1/2,

Well its basically because of 2 things...

1 - Replicaters 1st patterns are supposed to be a bit crap around the cuffs (the wool is not nicely knitted)

2 - The tail can't be held up at the back as there are no poppers.

Well here is the least embarrassing photo from my last open day.

http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id ... 478&size=l

I had just managed to get hold of a gas mask case and canteen - which you cant really see in the pics. The collar tabs are the embroidered type so dont really fit with my late war impression but they sit much better with a camo feldbluse than the later ones.

Gotta love the Tanaka it always looks very realistic in photos :)

Cheers guys.

Nope its gaiters over riding boots! I could not find a pair of jackboots to fit me (size 12) so I am using a pair of black leather riding boots - the gaiters disguise the obviously modern ankles. I am still on the lookout for something better :D

The site is Ambush Wargames Eversley. Great site - very large with plenty of varying terrain. Friendly bunch too.

EDIT: Since nobody laughed here are some more (56k warning!):

Well I plan to attend a few open days in the kit before the big game - if I dont clean it (which will be easy given my innate laziness) I should be looking like a ride bag of crap by April

Sidearm, I had a funny feeling it was Ambush Eversley. I've been there a lot over the years, as its less than 10 mins in the car to get there - you pop down their regularly?

Pretty much every open day - though I dont always go in my WW2 stuff. Its about the easiest woodland site to get to from NW london.

Maybe we should have an impromptu little WW2 session down there sometime :D
