Yes surly you are right the same air in a narrower chamber would mean more FPS?
Usually though a hop unit puts friction on the bb and hence slows it down. At least it does in every other gun I've ever chronoed!
TBH mate Im not sure of the technicals. "I turn it one way and it spins up, the other and it gos down,Adjust to requireds setting " Has always been more than enough for me to get my head around without complicating the cogs of my mind neadlessly.

TBH, I've never seen anyone at any site ask to to wind the hop off since most bods have taken a great deal of time setting the damn thing up.
Anyhoo, the point is 500fps ABSOLUTE MAX, whatever jiggery pokery you do.
