just been browsing around and found these pics which i quite liked...thought i would get an idea of what things looked like and get in touch with history a bit more.

That phot illustrates *perfectly* why were using PU.

Look at the aerial shot of the bridge, see how huge the approach ramps are, and relaise why UK airbonr never even got past that ramp!

Thanks for the pic heb.
That first picture brought back some quite deep memories.
It's been way too long since i was last in Arnhem... i think a trip is in order.

The current bridge is the third almost-identical bridge built at the same spot. The Dutch Army destroyed the first bridge when the Germans invaded Holland in 1940. The second bridge was destroyed by the US Air Force shortly after the 1944 battle.
