Yet another fantastic resource from the Dutch Civilian Re-enactment group...

Read it and learn... There is a lot here that we can use for our events!

http://www.nederland4045.nl/richtlijnen/ukrichtlijnenduitsersvsburgers.htm

So... do we point our players at this... or make a quick checklist of items.

Ideas...

We were talking about having Dutch Civies without weapons... I think its important to do it right.

Yes, a refreshing change from the sterotyped American war film that depict all Germans soldiers as lip curling, blood thirsty butchers.

Like most soldiers lives I imagine - mostly boring, routine and thinking about home!

Unarmed Dutch? Wasn't that what the armband thing was? No armband means they can wander about at will (subject to roadblocks and searches) being the eyes and ears of the Allies. How about the florist or doctor being summond to the Axis commanders HQ on some official business and catching sight of some secret plans on the desk? Sneak em out and pass to the Allies.

Yup thats right... no arm band = unarmed dutch.

Its interesting that get their armbands they should have to meet up with the Allies...

Maybe allow the DRWs to choose sides? They can work for either... its entirely up to them...

The stuff about germans searching the dutch is especially interesting!

It's all coming back to roleplay again . I'd love it if some Dutch civvy wormed his way into SS HQ with an Ausweiss and a bunch of flowers, only to shoot Chomley and run off  However it's airsoft, and chances are they'll just want to run around shooting their guns like all the other punters  The idea of lax searching is interesting .

Hows the plot with the artwork progressing ?

Yes its airsoft... but I think if these things occur its important to do it right.

For that reason some small attempt to teach the players what should happen should be made.

This may be a lot more relevant for your churchill game, Guy... There's some bloody good stuff in there you know!

I do really like the idea of allowing the DRW to choose their sides though... heh!

Guy... I'll be honest here. I've not had much time to think about the scenario. My life seems to be full of other stuff.

At work I'm supposed to be working and although a quick bit of surfing is possible, sitting and reading scenarios just doesn't work for me.

At home I have family to look after... Yup I know we all have that (well most), but mine is at an age where he requires constant attention!

I suggest that we arrange a scenario meeting sometime soonish.

Sorry brief downer for a minute. Agree should encourage such stuff as it adds a lot ! :D

We could allow the DRW to chose a side to be on , as some could be sympathisers/collaborators . Or perhaps the Germans could lure them to the dark side, and the DRWs could pretend to be lured and still work for the Allies. It could be such a great role forthe right player, rather than someone with a 2500 rd Tommy gun wanting to spray and pray

Perhaps we ought to set up the DRW only forum , and start floating these ideas past them, try to get them enthused to the idea rather than just expecting turn up and shoot. We could judge their reaction and see if they come up with any good ideas. I'm game for letting em be a sneaky as possible as long as all of us know whats going on .

Surely the Dutch are on BOTH sides - selling to them and providing services and necessities and being generally surley/reluctant but working with the reality that the Germans are in charge yet secretly working for the Allies to get rid of them.

I was just about to post this in the new private forum, but I stopped. I wasn't sure how this would affect the artwork subplot.

This is a place to discuss Dutch Resistance and Civilian Matters..

We've had a bit of a brainwave and decided to let the dutch civilians choose their allegiances...

We've decided to keep this a secret from the axis and allied players at least for the time being.

We'd like to hear your thoughts on the matter...

If you decide this is a good idea. Then you have a question to ask yourself.

"Do you work for the Allies or the Axis forces, or are you just in this for yourself?"

Its up to you and I suggest you don't tell a soul!

BTW... all CiA staff can see this forum and post. However if you do decide to declare your allegiances then we have no problem with dealing with info as if we were not aware of it.

Note that we may have a SoE or similar member in here as well...

This so far just applies for the Arnhem game. But it would also work well for the 24 hour commando event.

Mega cool, get em discussing ideas .

I'd add a bit about being double agents, although they might end up being sshot by both sides on sight !

Re the Artwork . don't mention it  We haven't decided fully and they needn't be aware until game starts !
We can be sneaky feckers too :D

Yeah... but the artwork scenario means they should have to work together... the SoE stuff may mean working together as well... hmmm...

I guess it may be worth a discussion though.

If the Dutch can opt to fight for one side or the other how the hell can either side tell whether to shoot them or not.

I thought Gadge's idea was that the Dutch can wander about with impunity (gathering info on Axis positions etc), be stopped and searched by the Germans and suffer the consequences if they are carrying weapons. BUT when they don the armbands they are in resitance mode and can be shot at by the Germans just as if they were Brits. Brits obviously won't shoot at the Dutch at all.

Absolutely... and thats how it would work in this as well...

Though it may be that an individual DRW actually works for the other side. If found out then their orange armband is taken off them. Perhaps have an axis one for them instead... given out by the axis commander.

You are right... it may all go tits up... which is why its open for discussion with all involved!

Hmmm, the Dutch idea was an elegant solution to the real possibility of not getting enough Brits for a game and so balancing the likely overpowering German force.

I rather fear this is becoming a distraction to the game as a whole.

The Dutch need to be led - that's where Steve comes in. They need to be cordinated and kept abrest of the game's progress, sent hither and thither, disrupting, gathering intel, fratenising with the Axis, meeting with the Allies. And fighting with the Allies. How is Steve going to do that if they are swinging both ways?

Yup... all things that have to be thought about!

No harm in asking the players what they think though!

Its still early days and we can change our minds again... Lets leave it to be chatted about for a while...

We may find that we have 1 guy who deffo wants to doublecross... if thats the case then we may have something to work with...
