Anyone got any Russian and German period music for the camp? I've only got allied music from the west :slap:

On CD? I can burn some German music onto a CD. I haven’t any Russian / Soviet, but I’ll see what I can find on the net.

Josh, Check out: http://www.joeri.net/radiofiles/

Number 11 is 12 hours of Russian music. Number 27 Radio Ostfront, 2 1/2 hours of German Propaganda / Music & Russian propaganda

Only €7.50 each :good:

“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."
Adolf Hitler, November 1942

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

Josh, I've just downloaded about 30 Russian folk songs. They could only be enjoyed if one was utterly smashed on vodka!

I'll do a few CDs for the w/e.

German one done - 27 tracks. I've managed to find some WWII Soviet era tracks, so I will try and bring myself to listen to some tonight!

(BTW, if anyone can recommend software that allows more than 80 mins on a CD, let me know. The one Oddball sent me had about 3 hours' on one CD!)

I'm guessing Nigel sent you a CD of MP3's - only compatible with MP3 enabled players whereas any CD player of any age/type will cope with the conventional CD you have burned.

Bah! what is this?

I assume if it is winning those nice minor key Russian folk songs, this German music is the interesting, decadent 30's cabaret jazz that has been smuggled out?

Not any of those gawd awful marching songs.

:P

is there still copy-write? after an artist has been dead for 50 years (different in different industries, I think it is 50 years after composition in music?) their is no more copy-write of the work.

You can perform anything you want unless you are charging for it, no one owns any copy-write on camp-fire singing.

Though I am sure there are plenty of tedious plodding German marching songs ;) that are less... nazi for an evenings fun.

Comrade Wladek, your talk of "decadent" jazz songs sounds distinctly counter-revolutionary to me. Please report to your politruk immediately.

Horst Wessel did not make the top 27, fortunately. However, all the German music is relevant to the period, mostly military. We are not reenacting some seedy Berlin jazz club; this is war!

Damn... Can we not re-enact a seedy Berlin nightclub? That sounds great. :D I do remember BedsnHearts having a nice quote, something like 'military justice is to justice as military music is to music'. I liked that. He should put it back. :giggle:

I think that it would be rather accurate though, depending on who we are re-enacting. Spike Milligan hated military music, I so no reason why there were not like minded souls in Germany and Russia.

You can listen to the Russian CD, and then stick your fingers in your ears for the German one.

Or alternatively, bring along that accordian... :P
