As long as its a repro of a WW2 british one then I don't mind..

Ideally something used throughout the war and not only used in the last 5 minutes...

BTW: This is the one I've bought on ebay

compass on ebay

Any chance i can discuss my MP40 pouches ..no ? ok .

My experience of lensmatic compasses would suggest that you avoid any that are not oil filled. The cheapo ones look the part (ish) but are very little use as an actual compass. The needles fluctuate too much to take bearings or follow them . If all you want to now if roughly which way is North they will just about do that .

Just ma opinion .

Confirm that the cheapo eBay compass isn't oil filled but it is brass, looks the part and does indeed point North. Not for hardcore outdoors type of chaps but good for airsofters who like to accessorise on the cheap!

Also bought a Vietnam style compass (oil-filled) that has the squared-off surround with map scales/rules along the edge. Also points North!

No idea how to use the wire/lens/bezel markers on either compass (now doubt I will be instructed at Caen) but all I really need to know is where stuff is relative to North so perhaps it's best I remain ignorant. :?

I can bring along a theodolite from work if anyone is interested!

I can work that but wouldn't have a clue about all the attachments on those complicated compi.
