Ok guys, I am new to militaria collecting and kit. I am looking towards a British Infantry loadout under 60 quid (no gun). Would any of you guys be kind enough to tell me cheap but realistic ways of getting a "lookalike" kit. (I still want original or repro webbing though). Thankyou ![]()

I'd say you'd have to be extremely lucky to get full kit for that price. If you went for the most basic 37 patt webbing set up - i.e. a belt, cross straps and two ammo pouches, you wouldn't get much change from £30. You would have to go for 49 patt battledress, which is not the same as 37 or 40 pattern, and probably a plastic helmet.
It's obviously your choice, but the point is about putting a "budget" kit together is that you will never be able to sell it on.

You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
Agreed, you'll struggle to get much for that budget. It used to be that you could get a maroon beret, belgian denison and '49 pattern trousers for peanuts, but they're both becoming collectors items in their own right now.
I'm afraid you're probably going to have to revise your budget up a bit, as, like Andy said, you're better off getting it right the first time, as your cheap kit won't really be re-saleable.
KD kit can still be very cheap, I've had three pairs of original war dated shorts and not one of them cost me mre than about £15 a pair. Battledress is expensive, even as repros... occasionally you can find 49 pattern in small sizes at silly cheap prices (Stoneleigh two years ago had size 13 blosues for a fiver each.
Denims occasionally come up cheap on ebay. I got my denims for £10 for the trousers and £11 for the blouse... post war but wartime cut and colour.
Sabre sales is stil the cheapest (outside of picking around militaria fairs) for webbing, used to be you cou get a set for a tenner but now as Andy says closer to £30.
I got a full set of 37 pattern webbing in mint condition fr about a tenner at War and Peace last year so the bi shows occasionally save you money even with the entry price!

Waldiebeast lives in Hong Kong so will be pretty much limited to importing & Ebay, I doubt they have Brit army surplus shops there. ![]()
All that carriage cost makes a £60 budget even less realistic.

Didn't the HK police 37 patt or some derivative? Maybe theres some hanging around there gathering dust. A cheapest lookalike denim is to use a pair of Brit lightweights. Only a couple of quid from British military surplus.

Stoneleigh this year had unissued size 13 '49patt blouses for £8 each. I bought another to convert...

You could only really build up a kit for that budget/price by scouring militaria fairs, but as you're in HK, it might be rather had to find any with UK typical prices. For example, from Stoneleigh this year I made up a basic '37patt webbing set (for my girlfriend to use when attending WW2 events as Brit with me) as detailed below:
New set of 37patt webbing, (built on a super-tight budget for my good lady to use) made from:
War dated 37patt belt, lightly pea-green blanco'd, but missing clasp brasses - £1
Generic multi-blanco'd/painted/heavily worn 37patt belt, bought to cannibalise for brasses for the ^above^ - £1
Pair of unissued 'normal/medium' cross straps - £2
Water bottle holder (I have a spare water bottle) - £1
Pair of 37patt MkIII pouches, un-blanco'd - £2
Pair of 37patt L-straps, still nicely blanco'd - £2

I've harked on about how bargainous there stuff is many times before (but they can be rip-off for other things - one set of tiny '49patt completely moth ragged was priced at £80!!!)...
No1_Sonuk and stof have already taken me up on my offer of buying stuff for them and posting it on. They also sell completely unused (fresh from the bale) 1943 dated lightweight resi pouches for £3 each! They even had some nice rarer dark green lightweight resi' pouches to go with '44patt or postwar webbing, but have unfortunately sold out of these.
