FnG supplies has loads mint condition still in paper packed boxes for not much more than a quid. or two. It doesn't really matter I think, leave 'em as they are if you want 'em that way!

I got 'em from sabre, blanco'd two of the three and gave the third (un blanco'd to waylander64!) nevermind, once I get my sten built for me I will no longer give a damn what colour the sling is!
(I'm just glad it's all over, -for now!)

Ramsay showed me some of the investigations he's done...

The best was the WPG Tarrango Shoe cream (with a couple of drops of GW Goblin green paint)... it looked the same colour and texture as proper crumbly KG3... excellent stuff!

What is the name/number that Tarrago call the shoe cream that WPG are recomending? I've found two colours in a local supplier which both could look 'right' but don't know if this stuff will dry lighter or darker than in looks 'wet' in the jar. The Kiwi stuff I've been trying dryes pretty much exactly the same shade as it looks when 'wet', and now would like to try the Tarrago with the few drops of GW paint.

The Tarrago is shade No 34 Olive Green. The GW paint is Catachan Green.
The shoe cream dries a little lighter than in looks in the pot on webbing.

How close is it without the added paint?

Only reason is i'd like to get a consistent colour, and being completely colourblind i find it difficult to match very close shades, so i'd never manage to get the same colour twice!

I am planning to add the paint in with a calibrated teat-pipette or small syringe so I could replicate the same shade for every jar I work my way through.

Fair enough. There is however, the small problem that GW paints aren't as calibrated as you are, and do vary!

Hehe, I can't remember from my 40k days, it all seemed to match to me... :slap:
Or has the quality of GW stuff gone a bit downhill?

We're going back a bit now, but when i used to work for GW, the colour changed depending how far down the barrel the pot-filling machine was as they were never stirred properly!

Hopefully they're better now! :D

I've just "Blanco'd" up a small pack and L-straps with Tarrago No.34 with the GW paint added. The results, as Yith and Ramsey said, are brilliant!
Sod genuine Blanco, now; this it the future! It goes on so easy and is far easier to get a nice consistent shade across a large expanse, such as the small pack. To match my existing KG.3'd kt, I used four 'dips' of a teaspoon handle* of the GW paint into the Tarrago cream. More than I'd thought would be needed, but not even close to 1/4 of the pot of paint.

As a guide to mixing it up, don't try to get the cream to match the shade of your KG.3'd kit when in the jar, it dries more greener that the olive-colour it looks when 'wet' in the jar. So just add some paint, then give it a little try on some spare web strap, and then add some more to suit until it is close enough.

*Precise measurements, eh? I couldn't find out any pipettes or small enough syringes.

I used a soft toothbrush to spread/scrub it on to the webbing. As said above, the paint is Games Workshop 'Catachan Green'. As an example, to match my already KG.3 blanco'd gear, which is in a used condition, I used about 2.5ml (half a teaspoon) of the paint into the 50ml jar of Tarrago No.34 cream. But for my freshly blanco'd kit, I found 5ml (a teaspoons worth) or a bit more was needed to get that strong forest green tint of fresh/well-blanco'd KG.3. I'd recommend going for the freshly blanco'd look, it'll give you more 'wear' before it starts to fade and need re-doing*.

Below is; firstly a old/soiled wide web-strap, next one down is a Tarrago blanco'd wide web-strap to match some slightly used/lightened KG.3 blanco'd kit, and the bottom one is a KG.3 blanco'd strap which has seen little use, but has not been blanco'd heavily/well:

How much paint did you use Ramsey?

*But as this isn't blanco as we know it, it looks like it'll last much longer/better before re-application is needed.

EDIT: The Tarrago does go on more transparent/oily without the paint, I've found. The paint, though is only there to taint the colour slightly more, seems to give the Tarrago cream colour some body/makes it more opaque.

Just as a note, the picture above does enhance the difference in the two blanco'd items rather more than it does in normal light. If I held them up side by side, it's hard to tell the difference, and the stuff that I have matched up to freshly blanco'd colour is really rather difficult to see any difference in the shade.

My new rule for blanco'ing kit is "1-part green to 10-parts cream"! *

*(i.e: 5ml of paint mixed to every 50ml of tarrago)

I'll try and bring a pot or two pre-mixed for others to try out at D-Day+2 if anyone's coming and interested.

Excellent, glad it's been some help. Do you have an item of KG.3 blanco'd kit around to compare it to? Are you going to GMA's D-Day+2?

Well ,if you want anymore references, I'm sure other folks here wil be willing to take pics of their 37patt or scan it in as I did.
KG.3 blanco does vary due to different batches and how thick it was applied, so the colour match never has to be perfect, it just needs to be roughly a similar shade. Have fun!
