I met the guy who makes the SoF liquid blanco at the weekend. He actually makes two shades. One for WW1 and one for WW2.

My unit CO has had a bottle of each to try. If its any good I'll let you know... and may even be able to get some for the group at a significant discount... I'm not promising though!

Honest click, my well-worn blanco'd kit looks just like that. Great match, what shoe cream is it again? And where can it be bought?

Done a bit of research: For a UK supplier of Tarrago Shoe Cream who stock all 70 colours available for £2.99 per 50ml jar;

K & D Supplies Ltd
(Reg No.: 05538933)
Mr. Kevin Baker
8 THE SOLEMAN
Bell Walk
UCKFIELD
East Sussex
TN22 5DQ.

I think the Tarrago colour desired is either No.34 Olive or No.35 Kahki.

EDIT: Or buy direct from the UK suppliers! http://www.tarrago.co.uk/ £2.20 per jar and £2.00 p+p.

Hi,

Did anybody watch Hotel Babylon (don't ask the wife loves it)? Anyway, the stories revolve around the interesting things people do in hotel rooms, don't worry this is going somewhere OK!

I blancoed all my webbing in one such hotel room the other night! (didn't trash the room doing it as v. careful). Is that a world first?

I used the coveted "last but one block" from Warren, just over half of it in total.

I am really pleased with the effect and coverage and I used the "grind to a powder, add water to a thin, watery paste and apply to dry webbing with a sponge", method. I made up the paste a bit at a time so I didn't waste any.

It needs a brushing as the surface feels a bit unpleasant (thanks Barry for the heads up about that). How dark is KG3 meant to be as the pictures posted so far are a bit lighter than mine? Can any one post up a picture of the colour we are aiming to achieve?

I will bring it to Varsity (though I am Bosch for this one) to compare.

True, but I have another plan, wet sponge to try and push the blanco deeper into the webbing. I will try that on a bit first to see if it reduces the brushing needed.

Anyway, I will check it against others on Sunday.

BTW, can you remember the No2 Commando cap badge for me please?

See you Sunday.

Spread out a bin liner and catch any blanco dust you brush off and use it to blanco up and other smaller items!

Blanco'd the majority of my 37 webbing tonight.
used the rectangular type and applied it with a toothbrush dipped in water. gave good coverage and got it in all the awkward places. looks good so far but I will have a better idea once it has dried.
question- as this blanco is water soluble will I have a problem with it rubbing off onto my battledress if it rains?
I'm not looking forward to doing the large and small packs with the toothbrush but having tried a nail brush I found the effects were a little patchy.

The rectangular type is waxy and will not wash off.

The round type will wash off... but doesn't stain.

I've been in a downpour in my 'round crumbly' blanco'd full kit and the blanco did "lift" out off the fibres of the web and 'water stains/marks' were left on the webbing due to the migration of the blanco colour, but not a single bit on my battledress!

good to hear it won't run,
meanwhile, blanco hell continues in my kitchen, I saved the best till last. the small pack and the application of nasty green filth with a toothbrush is sapping my will to live.
will it never be finished?!

Nope, never! You'll just aquire more webbing which needs more blancoing!

I'm currently experimenting with diffrent makes and shades of shoe cream as replacements. Pretty good results with Kiwi-Select 'Olive' shoe cream...

Ramsay showed me some of the investigations he's done...

The best was the WPG Tarrango Shoe cream (with a couple of drops of GW Goblin green paint)... it looked the same colour and texture as proper crumbly KG3... excellent stuff!

thank christ and all the angels, blancoing complete until I buy my anklets!
I've just given the webbing a good scrubbing with a shoe brush and I'm quite pleased with the results, now for this-evening's entertainment, brasso for all those nice bits of soon to be shiny -brass!
It don't get better than this!!
( I think I'd rather pay a fiver more and get the leather para chinstrap than blanco up another bit of kit this week!)

Remember not everything web is blancoed.

Helmet chinstraps and rifle slings should be left raw. Also only your personal issue webbing and anklets were blancoed. Items taken from company stores becasue they were role specific and not on your permanent issue were left raw.

So you dont blanco utility pouches, bren valise, bino cases (unless you're an officer) or sten bandoliers.
