Geat look but get yourself a decent waist - blummin thin people! (Although very authentic  )

You try hauling two man kayaka s over mountainous terrain on a diet of spam and locally stolen produce sabotaging kraut garrisons and dockyards..... soon take sit toll on your figure....

damn, living the fantasy again there.....

Based on period pics

Living off the land and with local partisans, most kit was in the bergan, basically usually carried just a knife and side arm.

Is really comfy this loadout and with a small haversack for mp40 mags or just a single tommy hi-cap adequte for gaming.

Dead cheap too.

At some point in the far future i might like to think about doing a Mediterranean/Italy summer game if there was enough interest.

Thats the great thing about Italian theater they wore a mix of tropical and European kit

So you could play with what you already have or get some more summery (read less wool) HBT/Denim/lightweight cam kit.

I think the reasoning behind the pistol stance was it was a "last ditch" defence. they viewed it in the sense of that even with extensive training the average pistol shooter would never be that good a shot at range so instead they were to shoot from the hip rapidly so to speak. I think i remember reading also they were told to take 2 shots at a time also.

Looking good there, mate !

Could also add in a thin wooly pully, and an unkempt service cap, with cloth badge (NOT metal)

Would also be inclined towards some sort of civvy neck scarf or cravat, as opposed to a commando scarf.

Liking the use of the MP40 ....
If you wanting the carry spare mags, MT pouches were used when available (as they were easy to place, having the 'drop' loops). Also the MT pouches seem to be marginally longer than the yoke pouches and fit either 4 Tommy mags or 6 MP40 mags comfortably.

+1 for an Italy/Med game, btw 8)

exactly! thats what really put me off re-enacting soldiers will do the same with kit....they'll mod it till it works for them - nice look there gadge

A lot of folk dont realise (especially folk who havnt been soldiers ) that there are th e official ways of doing something or carrying something and then there is what works and what is comfy which is what soldiers end up adopting.

I had lengthy discussion wiht a guy about the Arnhme promo shots as he picked us up on having a 'modern' stance carrying the lee enfield.
I had to find period pics and a 1941 manual picture to prove to him that the rifle was oftne carried pointing down and in the shoulder, depsite the 'official' way of carrying it being bayonet up.

Its like i refuse to believe that nobody loaded their revolver while holding on to the pistol grip :)

... and at the risk of seriously p*ssing over Gadge who seems to have more load outs than I've had hot dinners, the SAS and SBS types who I've seen pictured from the Med looked nothig like as neat as this set-up. In fact, don't shave for a month and go for shorts, denim cap and fishermans jumper and you're there.

Pistol's right though  and it's a vey nice load out whatever.

Look at this kit - SAS in Italy. That's obviously a Commando jumper on the right. The guy on the left - is that a leather jerkin?

I dont think it's the issue jerkin, it seems to have loops to close the front.
It also looks very pale and rather short.

A lot of folk dont realise (especially folk who havnt been soldiers ) that there are th e official ways of doing something or carrying something and then there is what works and what is comfy which is what soldiers end up adopting.

But then there is a large archive of photos and film that would suggest that most enlisted men did as they were told most of the time when it comes to wearing kit.
No doubt there were exceptions but mostly the rules were followed.
Enlisted men in the front line did not have the time or the money to buy or have made gucci kit[I'm thinking field made camo like splinter trousers for the wehrmacht]. When you do see these rare items they tend to be officers and ncos.
It's not common to see germans without the gas mask can, I hate the bloody things but jerry carried his.
'Elite' units esp. sas and sbs cannot be looked at in the same light as line regt. They are not subject to the same discipline and often encouraged to adapt and modify kit to suit themselves.
This is not the modern army, they could not go to any number of retailers to get a better tunic or some larger capacity ammo pouches.
Uniforms were controlled, you were told what to wear and when.
