Just been chuckling away to the Dad's Army episode "Room at the Bottom" where Mainwaring loses his commission and a Sergeant Major gives them all rifle drill - with predictably hilarious consequences.

The Sergeant Major is wearing a type of peaked cap where the peak is almost vertical to the cap sides. He has to tilt his head backwards just to see under it. What's that all about then?

....and where do I get one?

Ah well, it's a normal issued peak cap with the peak slashed to change the shape into the 'novelty drill instructor' look

You mean like an officer's cap?

In true "Entitled 21st Century Yoof" style, I'd like you to supply all the information without me having to lift a finger, including buying one, slashing the peak and sitting in on my head for me :D

tssskkk

innit

There is an Other Ranks Service Dress (SD) cap as well as as the officer's one. JD7's info on why and who is correct. It is a Guards, or drill instructor thing to look "special".
If you want to have one you should also look for a pace stick and a very shouty voice!

You can just slash the peak on a regualr SD cap to make them.

How is that done then?

Granted it was probably 50s but on the original "slashed" type peak cap i had the peak was actually smaller than a regular peak cap-would this be correct-if all that makes sense

It was an RA cap by the way if that also makes any difference.

To be pedantic, that's not a No2 cap! Looks like a modified sd cap, which is much more "period" than a No2 cap anyway.

There may be modified versions but i know as well there is an issued one for the RHA-made of coarse BD type material.

I'm pretty sure that the RHA number two cap has a red band, as do other "royal" regiments. Although, I think the RHA do have a serge type "forage" cap, so, it could be one of those.
