Whilst trundling across the internet,I ended up at the AFRA site.They are,apparently,a blanket association for all things ww2.As far as I can gather,one joins as an individual,for a small fee.The membership benefits include PLI and a membership card,both of which ,I believe will help with the current issues we have already disscussed else where on this forum,re the VCRB.It looks promising.Membership runs fromJan to Dec,and if I recall correctly,was about £15.
That looks very interesting , and maybe offers an option for the specific defence for those of us who only do WW2 airsoft instead of belonging to a site. Be interesting to see other peoples thoughts on this, could it also be placed in the general WW2 airsoft section ?

What do you want to know? We are an organisation set up to cater for those interested and engaged in Living History and Re-enactment covering the 20th Century.

I've just helped a team of airsofters set up a sports club and obtain valid TPPLI in order to carry on doing as they are doing.......
You could join AFRA but I dont' think we are what you need - Specifically because our cover is for re-enactment and living history.....
You could set up a club say - based on this very forum - CiA. You enrol members, state your aims, form a committee have some rules and a constitution and buy yourself some insurance...... It really is as simple as that..... I had a long talk with Guy about it.......Don't know what he's doing with the information though......
Insurance will cost you from as little as £200 to as much as £1000 a year - depending on what cover you want, how many members you have and how many events and type of event you want to attend. If you run events you need Employer's Liability....... If you use pyro or blank firers, that's extra.... but it's doable..... The lads I was involved with have done it for about £30 a head for the year...... That's less than a quid a week innit?

I had wondered if we (PBI) could join AFRA,as individuals,and gain insurance cover.If we join as re-enactors,which some of us are,and others may become,would we be covered,or have I rather missed the point,or more correctly,would our AFRA insurance extend to ww2 airsoft,as ,technically,it is a form of battle re-enactment?
The 'rules' are similar for both airsoft and reenacting defences - they require validation being a member of a group that carries PLI, not that the individual carries PLI. Really just as proof that it's a pukka group not a 'work-around'. In airsoft it would be a member of a valid site, in reenactment member of a valid group.
The only practical difference between the two routes (besides the obvious of whether you are a reenactor or airsofter) is that reenactors have the defence written in law which would require parliament to amend, airsofters defence however can be removed at the stroke of the pen of the Home Secretary and therefore less robust long term...

I think Action Mans original post was asking if we as individuals can get the defence necessary to buy WW2 airsoft guns by joining AFRA as individuals. There are a few on this forum who only attend WW2 airsoft events, they have no interest in 'open days' so are not regular members of an airsoft site, so they can`t comply with the UKARA scheme.
