I've got a size 4. I'm 5'10 wearing shoes, not carrying too much extra weight. I'm not really sure how to do a chest measurement but the tape measure reads 41" with max chest inflation (weedy!)

Sleeve length is fine.
Overall length is fine (if I do the tail up on the middle row of poppers I can stretch up without nether-region damage.
Body fit is 'roomy' - yeh, they are supposed to be like that and I'm only wearing a shirt (well, trousers too  ) but with jumper/blouse will feel a bit more snug.

It's the Phoenix Xmas bash - free food!

Thought I had better show my face there and do a bit of networking as well as having a giggle. I might moderate their forum but some of the new players have never seen me - now they can find out who the grumpy mod is!

Oh, and quite a few of the 'old' players will be there - I haven't seen Ade for ages and his arm needs twisting to come to WW2 gigs.

Yeah i'm always amazed he doesn't, you'd think he'd have been a staunch supporter.

Especially as his argument for wearing ss kit always used to be he was re-enactor.

I really should have a game up there again soon, i've not been since september.

My Rangercmp denison turned up today - very pleased,. I'm not an expert, but it feels like good qulaity and looks very cool. If it had a full zip I'd wear it
out all the time.

Bought Size 4, fits really well with room for layers underneath even over my 44' chest.

Cheers

Well, christened the Dension today. Plenty of crawling so less like a spanky new repro and more 'lived in' - just how I like all my kit.

It's funny, I play in all sorts of kit - NVA, GI, SS. But when I wear modern or period British kit it definitely feels different. I can't put my finger on it except to say it feels 'right' and yes, I think the word that sums it up is 'proud'.

Tried my Denison on and somehow didnt feel right so got my SOF/GMAX/MILITARYTOURS or whatever the hell make it is to compare.

Not sure which is correct but my Rangercamp sleeves are like huge batwings and are straight along the shoulder(if that makes sense)whereas teh other smock has no batwings and the sleeves are sort of angled downwards

Weird that i have a Militarytours/K&c smock and a rangercamp and apart from the collar lining they are identical.

Pics of sleeve detail

1st smock is Rangercamp and the Rangercamp is the one under the unknown smock.

On the WWII forum reference was made to the lower pockets covering the tail popper patch.
Having both size 3 and 4 which vary only in chest measurement I can see that on size 4 the pocket are clear of the poppers but due to the narrower size 3 the pockets have nowhere to go, other than slightly across the central patch.

I had the chance today to inspect a size 5 original, though it was a type 2. On this the lower pockets crossed onto the popper area. If I can I'll get pictures up.

Cool. Size 5 is the narrow fitting of size 6, like 3 is a narrow fitting of size 4 I think? If so then Rangercamp has got it right - pockets are a standard size so are squeezed in on the narrow fittings for they could hardly be wrapped the other way behind the side seams.

Does your original have the 'bat wings' that taffpara illustrated?

Here is that original 2nd type size 5.

In the first shot you can just see the shape of the bat wing on the right sleeve[so left side of the photo]. You can see on the second the pockets are seen to overlap the popper area. this was the point of much discussion in the re-enactiong world. A new term can be coined, pocket nazi?

Hehe, it might be see as being 'pocket nazi'. I would just look at it as appreciation for Rangercamp getting their repro spot-on despite at first glance thinking 'hmm, that's odd' and questions therof being answered

Thanks for clearing that up Poacher!

There are often 'quirks' in the production of uniforms and equipment. It was built for battle not for the catwalk.
What the modern eye may see as a fault is often no more than a production idiosyncrasy.

Well we don't know what the reserve on those is...

Could be anything.

Plus its second pattern.

Given the choice, I'd still go for a Rangercamp.
