Seeing as i'm far too stitch countery about all this, (Only in regard to my own gear! ), I don't think i can bear to go to PW with 49 pattern BD so i've been looking for repro kit.
I was looking at replicators for getting some repro brit gear, but noticed Yith's comment about their BD being of 'questionable quality'? Has anyone got/seen their Brit BDU, and if so what's it like?
I was thinking of getting a 37 patt. blouse, their commando trousers and a green beret from there, for a nadge over
Their serge is definitely a lot thinner than the competition...
I think it will probably rip more easily.
However I don't actually own any of their BDs so can't comment further.

Ah, i see, cheers. I've read reviews on a few sites that have generally been positive, the only comment about thinness of material has been about their denison smocks though.
Their denison smock is fine... material is nice and thick.
BTW, their GS caps are wrong. Serge is very thin and they're the wrong shape.
But heck it'd do for airsofting! lol
BTW, I too would like to hear some first hand reports of replicaters BD... certainly they look okay. All I've been concerned about is their resilience.

Well, The material feels wrong when you compare the BD they sell with a genuine BD, Workmanship on the BD I had wsa very shoddy, but I think that depends on which slave is making the stuff at the time, but thier cant be that much QC. When you put them on they rip Verry Easily so you have to watch thet you dont go near anything spikey.
Their are a few things to avoid from replicators that I have found
Boots
Battle Dress
Berets/GS Caps/Scotish Headdress
His other stuff is spot on though. My advicwe would be to get a set of Denims and take a pair of thermal undies, that way IF you get cold you can put somthing on underneath.
Ok, replicators is out then, has anyone got any recommendation on '37 or '40 pattern sets that are fairly accuarate and useable?
Commando style trousers not a necessity, they were just the same price on there.
i've looked at the recommendations on the brit kit thread, and prices varied between
Think mine were made by warhorse bt i got them second hand off ebay for a bargain

SoF are good, but you may want to get them at a show, their sizes can be whacky!
from what I understand WPG are good as well...
best thing to do is go for Denims if you want a "Correct" Brit commando Look. But as a little bit of flair I will be whearing a white roll neck jumper underneath the BD and going as a commando officer, to do that I will be badging up a large 49 Ptn BD Top.
Yup... replicaters denims are good... just basically avoid the serge! lol
I actually own replicators 1940 BD and trousers, as well as a beret, and theyre all fine.
I will agree that the serge is slightly thin, fine for walking around at a ren-enactment event, but since i started wearing them for skirmishing ive began to wear throught the crotch.
I cant fault the quality of the stitching, and my mum (an ex pro costume maker) agreed theyre well made.
the colour of mine turned out a shade browner than the later war BDs, but seeing as i do early war commandos, its not that bad
i would however advise against his british gaiters, they just didnt cut it, wrong shape, nd leather straps/buckles look all wrong.
oh and until 1942, most commando operations were done in standard battledress, so i would disagree with denims being the "correct" brit commando look...most of the RM commandos wore denisons or windproofs too.

Mikey
I disagree with denims being 'correct' too.
I've seen denims used but mos tht time it is wool bd.
Due to the infomral nature their is no 'correct'
Denisons post 44.

There was a thread posted some time ago over on the re-enacting forum about Replicators BD. Some poor chap was all happy with his new, rather orange '40 pattern and saying how the quality and accuracy was top notch when it was pointed out there was a button and button hole missing from the front.
I guess this must have been the super economy utility pattern?
The quality is so variable I'd avoid them if you can get the same item elsewhere. Dealing with a supplier/vendor in this country you have more rights and the consumer law to fall back on if there is a problem.
The relative cheapness of this gear can soon be off set by the postage costs and time factor of returns for faults in quality or fitting.

From what i've read, what he does well is done very well, but there's a lot of his stuff that either so-so or just bloody awful.
In the end i've gone with a set of denims and a denison smock from sanjay, both of which i've heard first person good feedback about, and read the same online, so hopefully i'll be ok.
I'll report on 'em when they tun up ayway.
My windproof kit turned up a few weeks ago and I a very pleased with it. feels very well made, fits nicely and turned a few heads at a recent skirmish so I can't complain. In fact, I'm thinking of a denim BD next for that Italian front Commando look.
I have just ordered a Denison Smock and Para Trousers, the jacket is supposed to be given the worn/used look will let you know what its like when it turns up after xmas...HO HO Merry Xmas
I have a pair and I think they're fine - although I don't have a real set to compare them with. It's standard Replicaters issue - correct pattern, good quality cotton, good tailoring but slightly shoddy finishing, which in this case means re-sewing the braces buttons. The front buttons are probably wrong too.
Mostly sewed-on buttons that tend to ping off after about an hour of heavy wear. The front and cuff buttons are attached with split rings. Tell me which parts of the BD you'd like to see and I'll take some pics for you.
Dont bother with Replicator battledress, it's a waste of your money, even for twice a year airsoft battles.
It's orange, it's thin and may or may not have the correct number of buttons.
