Hi,

Were KD Aertex shirts badges like the serge BD?

I've been told that the insignia on KD kit was often just tacked on or atatched with hooks and eyes so they could be removed when washing. Is this true?

Also, were there KD battleress trousers with a map pocket? I have only seen plain ones for sale.

Cheers

Ranj

okay... there's very little insignia on KD shirts... In fact its probably safe to go without everything but rank.

hooks and eyes for attachment is true...

KD battledress trousers do have a map pocket. However you do get KD trousers without as well...

hehe... that was for a church parade... unblancoed is what they would have used in the field...

Quite possibly KG3 stuff scrubbed clean...

We've now got basic sets of unblancoed webbing - except for the belts which Sabre obviously only had blancoed.

One is normal olive drab the other is a horrible pea green colour (early war?).

The question is, I've tried srubbing them and even left them in the bath overnight but all to no avail. How do you get the stuff off?

Am going to try Vanish mousse carpet cleaner next.

Try stick them in a hot wash in your washing machine...
Take the brasses that you can take off beforehand... ;)

I find that a washing machine makes web material go either fuzzy or slapped-down like as if it's been polished or BrillCreamed

You have an aertex KD BD jacket then?

I have no pics of South Staffs wearing those. They generally had shirts or bush jackets/shirts (in the Pegasus archives pics)

Since all this lot had sleeves rolled up during the day I suspect that you'd probably be better not having glider badges on.

In fact the rules for KD uniforms in general tend to be different from other serge... most of the time there's no insignia at all, sometimes div patch... sometimes a service strip (RA)... but usually just rank.... though this does vary!

I do, I've had it cluttering up the cupboard for ages and never thought I'd get to wear it!

I'll leave it unbadged then and save the badges for the serge BD.
