Just wondering how many "Germans" have got Zeltbahn or shelter quarters, and if they would like to try and set up some Zeltbahn tents, I've got two myself one wehrmacht and one ss, but I've never tried making a tent with them, I think you need four in total plus two sets of Zeltbesteck, or pegs and poles, which come in a set of three, three pegs and three pieces that make up a pole in a small carrying case. If anyone is interested in this I'll post a photo of the poles/pegs so you know what I'm on about. Some of these tents would look quite good in our HQ area.
Yeah, I'm taking the SS Zelt collection along.
To put up a 4 Zelt tent you need:
4 x Zelts (duh, obviously)
4 x Pole sections
8 x Pegs
1 x Helmet. To pop over the end of the pole that sticks through the top of the zelt pyramid, to stop rainwater running into the tent.

I'm after an assault A frame to finish of my gear and I might get another Zeltbahn while I'm on, just so we can have a tent to kip in for the next big event, better than a modern nylon one.
SOF had a special offer on A frames and A frame bags a few weeks ago. Quite a decent discount off the regular price if i remember.

Excuse my ignorance - how big are these, and are they practical? Is there any other type of period rucksack that anyone would recommend?

I saw a US site with some swiss packs that where cheap & looked period & practical although not exactly German ww2, or try ebay

You must bring a water bottle with you that you can carry at all time. There is no water on site, and large jerry cans will be provided at strategic points and bases for players to fill up at .

Nope - we've got 4-5 Nato black plastic jerry 5 Gallon cans .....alright I know they're not period ,but at least the water will be drinkable
how easy will it be to go back and forth to the base etc during the nights/mornings. just wondering if i need to plan to carry the camp stove with me along with food etc or if i can get away with just carrying snacks to keep energy levels up and water

You can go back ot your car as you want, it maybe a trek though .
No home made pyros please , other than that anything used responsibly is fine

Having just re read your post , you shouldn't have ot carry any more than snacks on you . The event will be structured so that you will be rotating between on duty and stand down, so all players will have time to get some scoff are regular intervals. Unless it all goes tits up of course
