OK, rather interesting 24 hrs. Had a call yesterday, saying that Josh is going to have his booking of Longmoor refused, even though he has sent a cheque in. This was then confirmed by a third party who decided it would be fun to phone me at 06:00 this morning. Josh has not been informed of this yet!

Anyway..........

I had to pop down to Chobham for a photoshoot, and got cornered by Charlie (site op Ambush. Runs Longmoor for Airsoft) He told me exactly the same thing. He then made an admission its because there is a bit of graft going on. He then said that he'd like to run a WW2 Airsoft event at Longmoor in November (the timing, I think, is a "fuck you" to Josh) He then asked if id be involved in planning. Now, having worked *with* Charlie before on designing game scenarios, i would never, ever consider doing it again. He's fucking lazy. So, bright idea time, I suggested that CiA run it, much the way that we've worked with other Sites in the past. He agreed on the spot (as i said, lazy)

Then we got onto the basics. Cost for one. He wants to charge £70 for it (without food - but hey, thats how we normally work anyway). Stick a fiver on top for props, thats £75. Which is on par for a weekender at any Urban site. Marshalling, very low. The only slight problem is that we cant get on site on the Friday evening (MoD class that as a whole day, ergo, they charge for it). I don't see this too much as a problem. Accommodation, we can kip in the housing in the NI training block - no arsing around with tents in November is a good thing) No problems with booze on site on the Saturday evening. :)

Thing is, we don't get just the village, we get the 500 acres around it. This includes bunkers, dug in tracked armoured vehicles, the Train, and some rather nice bridges for blowing up. There are no problems with wheeled vehicles being used in play, and FPS is whatever we want it to be!

Pryo, Tony Lewis. Usual deal. He gets sole rights to sell pyro, and blows stuff up for free.

Advertising, in the mag FOC. Monaf also says he can get SOF down with a stand as well.

I''ve played a LOT of urban sites. This one is the best by far. From the houses converted into bunker systems, to the underground tunnels we can use, to the woodland, the moorland, the old armoured vehicles, to the train and bridges. It is the most interesting site i've ever played.

What are your thoughts on this?

**edit**

And yes, the 4 of us don't pay...

Good Lord! Where to start?

First question is political. Why is Josh being refused access and why would Charlie want to say 'feck you' to Josh? If we did run a game there it would spell the end of any relationship with Gunman, I would have thought. Falling out with anyone is not a great idea. Esp. if he found out before our March game is run!

I have no knowledge of Longmoor regarding it's suitability for airsoft so would have to be guided by you on that. Are site recces a possibility?

Are there minimum player numbers for viability?

CIA games have been historically strong on props/signage - is that doable with not having site access the previous day?

On the negative side we organise a game to give someone £30 a head profit for no work, on the positive side we get to run a premier game at no financial risk....

Certainly tempting!

Alright one long chat with Kermit later ...

Game for this providing

1 We hire the site rather than help run a game
2 We make sure Josh looses it and it is all settled first
3 We make no announcment befroe TEHL

It would give us "the BIG WWII Game" in 2008 , which would re establish our position as "original and best"
Reckon do Arnhem again , this time on a bigger scale, but lets walk first

We could do Arnhem again, but i've been doing a bit of research on the battles that happened at the junction of the US and British areas in Normandy. Some very hard-fought punch ups over small towns and villages - and it looks like some of them involved both Brit and Yanks on the Allied side.

This would mean that all three *major* sides can get involved. It also means that gameplay can be developed further. Say, starting with the Germans in the ville, and in outposts in the surrounding area, and being attacked by the Brits from one side and the SPAMs from the other.

Then there's the Falaise pocket as well. Start off with the all the Germans except for HQ in outposts (say, 75M out from the village), which must be overrun by the Yanks from one side, and the Brits from the other. They then fall back to the next set out outposts (village perimeter) then finally into the village.

Yeah, my brain is throwing ideas out already....

Some questions:

Why was Josh refused his hiring (direct with the land agent, as I understand)?
Why would we be able to hire direct?
and if not
Why would Charlie allow us to organise, run and earn cash from an event that he was going to run?

Why was Josh refused his hiring (direct with the land agent, as I understand)?

- Because the Mil Training wing gets final say over who uses it. And thats where the graft is going on...

Why would we be able to hire direct?

- See above.

Why would Charlie allow us to organise, run and earn cash from an event that he was going to run?

- he's lazy, and he hasn't got a clue about WW2 Airsoft. IMHO he just sees it as another group of players he can get at his site.

Ah yes, but why is Josh getting refused and why wouldn't we?

If Josh does get refused, what do you think Josh will do when he's refused this game? He's just secured a big woodland site in the SE, do you think he'd run a big game there on the same weekend?

I think that both of you are missing the point slightly.

Josh is apparently getting refused because of some BS reason dreamt up by the OIC of the training wing at Longmoor (who can over rule Landmarc at any time). The same OIC that gets quite a few backhanders from Charlie.

Why would we get it? because we'd be working in the same way with Ambush as we have done with Phoenix, IED, First and Only and UCAP. Their insurance, "their" site. Our event.

Re Josh's site in the south east. I'll wish him good luck with that one. It's one hell of a congested market. I can get to over a dozen sites in less than an hours drive.

Ah, got you. I didn't realise Josh was trying to get in there to over and above Ambush.

Just to be clear, I'm not against the idea Kermit - just that I veer on the side on caution, and there are questions to be asked!

I'm happy to proceed with further exploration on the project viability...

What would the minimum paying punter number be to make it worthwhile for Charlie?

Nowt wrong with caution - and you're right about questions needing to be asked. I'll find out about min/max numbers over the next couple of days.

Hmm, could it be something to do with this perhaps?!

Well, what a load of balls that was! drove for 3hrs stuck in traffic all the way round the M25 for a 10am meeting to get a text at 9.30 (as I pulled onto the longmoor rd) saying' I have the flu, catch you next week'! Total monkey Wank!!

Still want to use this site, will have to find other means!
Date will definatly change!! sorry for the mess around.

Just spotted that.

So that's Longmoor and Tuddenham off. Sheesh!

Heh, Monaf just rang me enthusing over the Longmoor thing - he wasn't being too complimentary about Josh. I hope upon hope that nothing blows up before our Eagles game is done and dusted :(
