Popped down to Combat South this afternoon for a chat with Russ and Steve. Asked 'em if they have any problems with selling to reenactors, and they said they don't, they just need to see a membership card. Russ then went on to state that AA (which id heard a rumour about) have been selling lots of kit to reenactors as well. This bodes well for the whole AFRA thing.
On a side note, i also learnt *exactly* what happened at the UKARA meeting after it kicked off over Zero One. It would seem that Z1 were being a little bit naughty. If someone wanted to buy a gun, then they would strip it into two parts then put them through as separate purchases. Totally legal to do. It only becomes illegal if the person who assembles them into a RIF doesnt have a defence by regulation or amendment to the VCRA.
Sneaky, but legal ![]()

When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
Excellent Jay.
That ain't nothing to do with the public hoohaa on ASCOCK then which centred around the site arm signing off the player to Z1 after only one game...
I'm guessing a magistrate/judge would take a different view on legality - the act is loosely worded but the intent is clear. Z1's action breach the intent! Hey ho, Z1's actions are that far off not far off two tone guns for bypassing the acts actual words though, I suppose!

Cool , regarding membership what is stopping us announcing this ? I'm assuming we'll mention AFRA after a period after the membership is announced
Yeah, I started drafting something - I'll get back onto it this weekend now Bryan is sorted...

be a nice double whamy, we could sign em up at Eagles !
Definately - first memberships at Eagles at the very least. I'll check with PD how things are going the AFRA end. I also need to check on the membership renewal dates - I have the feeling they run from 1st Jan to 31st Dec, in other words there isn't a rolling date. There might be a pro-rata thing, so I'll have to check...

Re CiA membership cards
Plastic round edge full colour double sided cards (same size and thickness as credit cards) with sequential number and signature strip will cost £168 incl delivery and VAT for 250.
There is a lead time so I'll need to get cracking if we are to hand out at Eagles game - seeking go-ahead to proceed...

.....that's a lot of cash ... is it really worth it ? Most clubs go for the cheap and cheerful laminated stuff. Which i can do at home for a lot less.
Heh, anyone can do nasty cards! It's being paid for out of AFRA funds remember... < £1 per member.

Why paid out of AFRA funds?, I thought this had nothing to do with AFRA
& don't tell me to read the thread
Seriosuly though , is this card is the "worthless one" or is this the AFRA affiliated one ?
Gah, read the fecking thre....
LOL
OK, the CiA card is the 'worthless' card - something nice for our players to keep in their wallets. It doesn't cost them anything other than playing at a game and filling in some personal details (and so are our 'legal' members for organisational purposes). These are the people we value and make special offers to - one of which will be the means of joining AFRA and all the benefits that brings.
So, it will cost £168 for 250 cards (actually, quite a high cost as it is a very low number run). 250 cards should last 2 years - I'm sure we won't have more individual players than that unless we open the scheme out to other game organisers (which I'm not advocating).
Unit cost 68p. If the card is give free, who is paying for it? Those that take up the AFRA option will be giving £5 to us for 'admin'. Postage and stationery related to sorting AFRA applications might be £1 (stamp, envelope, paper) leaving £4 in the 'kitty'. Let's say we get 25 AFRA memberships over the two tears = £100 - that will mean 27p to fund the CIA card will have to come from the player's game fee, not a problem.
Therefore, more or less self-funding (as I am trying to do the the web site & forum).
ALTERNATIVELY
In the announcement of the CiA membership scheme we say it's optional to all our players - if they want to sign up they pay £1.
This isn't my preferred option - anything that give people an option and a cost will lead to much lower numbers of CiA members.
Remember, at the moment we don't have anything to 'offer' in return, that comes later.
In other words, it becomes self-defeating. We don't just want CiA members who only joined because they can buy guns - we want CiA members because they are our players, the most valuable thing we have.

Understand now , so we sub the card initially and then recoup the costs with the AFRA £5 . sounds good to me .
