Chatting to Guy the other day about CiA events becoming too much of a ball ache. It was really hard to get chaps moving to start the game on Sunday. Guy suggested that as chaps are usually too shagged to play on Sunday and in any case momentum and enthusiasm has waned, so why not do the following:

Camping available Friday night with pre-game social for those who want to travel before the event.
Otherwise arrivals first thing Saturday.
All day game on Saturday (say six solid hours - no 'lunch' break)
Endex
R&R after endex (or folks can leave site if they choose)
Some sort of 'light' night game if there is the demand to do it (after which chaps can leave site if the choose)
Saturday night social
Camping Saturday overnight if desired
Strike camp and leave site Sunday morning

There would be a chunk less for us to do, players have flexibility on arrival and departure points, easier to finish the game on a high, social element retained.

Sounds fine to me. Although my guys seemed to really enjoy Sunday.

To be honest the 2 day thing only started after CR.

It's not that they didn't enjoy Sunday 'cos they did - but would the event have been any the poorer without it? (Given some didn't even start the Sunday and several dropped out throught the morning...)

Gets my vote (well it was my idea  )...24 hours make sense when you plan on playing through the night . 10 til 6 would kill most of our lot off. Would also allow us to plan to end on a bang more as well .
As CW says this is danger of becoming too much of a ballache

Any event where there's only a couple of hours gameplay on the Sunday is going to go that way.

I would still like to do one complete weekender a year, playing till 3 or 4 on the Sunday, in the way we did at CR, and perhaps thats the way to do it. Look how much less crap we took to that event than to recent ones?

You've got completely the wrong end of the stick there - i'm talking about personnel kit!

How many people took chairs to CR? how many took 9x9's or 14' ridge tents? How many people bought another set of kit for getting pissed? Oh yes, and how many people bought even 10% of the booze we drank at CR?

That's what i'm getting at!

I'm going to go into Gadge mode here for a moment, so please excuse me for it!

[gadgemode]Back when I was an Instructor with RCB ACF (fookin' long time ago!) we noticed that the more "home comforts" the cadets took into the field on excercise, the more difficult it was to get the little sods to shift themselves in the morning. I think the same thing *could* apply here.[/gadgemode]

The "CiA Light" Concept brought up ages ago might just work well - but not on the props we bring, but the amount of shit that players bring with them?
