He has been hassling for our rule set which he now has.
For some reason he has concentrated on the rules being the game rather than the scenario, with the rules incidental (as our games are). I guess this is the LARP background coming out.
Anyway, I have told him as much - I need a lot more back story to sell the event, not a list of spurious rules!
I'll fill you in with progress...

No ideas, I don't think this bloke is taking the slightest notice of us . Still got the Golden shower bollox in there. The more this goes on the less I suspect I'll have anything ot do with it if it carries on like this . I still think he won't get many opf our regulars turning up and TBH if this is what appeals to his crew I'm not sure I'd want ot have them come to our events either.
We need to meet this fucknut soon and agree a common policy on whats going on , or just cut the fecker loose.
Hold your horses Guy - he has only just got the rules. He doesn't listen to our private conversations!

How do you mean , "he's just got the rules?" , what he's posted looks like the same bollox he posted when he first started this . Have we given him the rules , if so why is all the crap about veterans getting extra lives and golden comebacks still in there?
Yep zero difference form the initial rules
Personally i'd edit that post while were stil associated to say 'rules pending'

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
my thoughts too , I'd prefer it if he'd say that as well
Well i see no point in being associated if its just using us for publicity and our player base, even if he is giving us

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
** sighs **
Why not read what I said instead of going over and over the same crap!!

What you say isnt the issue Dave, its whats been posted and everyone thinks were supporting.
the issue is that Josh has totally jumped the gun and put up something none of us are happy with but still bears our name.
I for one would like the rules removed until they were discussed and josh take s our suggestions on board.
Im unhappy to be 'in association' with this event as it stands and for damage limitation think we should remove the rules at the mo unitl we've *all* josh included agreed.
Other wise one of two things wil happen
Josh awful rules become a fait accompli and we end up wiht htem
or
They change and players become confused

Must admit i thought we were having an input Josh recent post of
We will be selling around 100 tickets next week at War and Peace and are looking for peeps that really want the experience of the battle as well shooting some guns. Once we have some idea of the units attending, we can start to put together the many missions that both sides will be given over the weekends. The one thing we can garentee is an amazing weekend.
Any rules amendments, if any (very few, call it tweeking) will be done at the end of July.
........doesn't inspire me at all .
also think if he gets 200 players from the War and Peace show they will mostly be nobbie newbs . Will suspend disbelief till after his booking lines have opened, but we need to get a grip of this bad bay ASAP or gently back away.
JOSH SHOWS NO SIGN OF A COLLABORATIVE APPROACH TO THIS IN WHICH CASE WHAT IS OUR INVOLVEMENT IF ANY ?
BTW, My position is unchanged with this... I want nowt to do with it.
Has Josh even seen our recommendations then, it appears not or if he has he's not paying a blind bit of notice.
I feel we have to stress that this is *not* in any way a CIA game at the present.
Otherwise i think our players are going to go there and get pissed off.

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
We need ot see several things
1 How many tickets he sells and to who . The way he's talking he seems to think he'll get a lot come in from Reenactor groups who will be a/s noobs which in itself will not make ofr a good game
2 See how many of "our" regulars take to it , at the mo it's looking low , hence don't think it will bollox our brand .
3 Need to see how many go for the "training weekend"
At the mo we could be getting upset about an event that won't take place at all . However still reckon we need to get more involved , at the mo I feel we aren't at all .
After CR I think the likelyhood of "our" crew signing up for 24 hours in Nov is decidedly slim unless we really get behind it .
Fair points.

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
I can't see him getting ANY reenactors for one simple reason. Cost. Shit, they moan about spending 25 quid on an entire weekends private battle. Josh stands no chance of removing large amounts of money from their wallets.

Christ, you are a tedious lot. That's the second time I've nearly resigned from CiA. After taking 24 hours out to collect my thoughts....
OK, here's the score.
We agreed to get involved with Gunman. We weren't happy with the rules, Josh said fine, change them. I spent weeks trying to get you all to consider what he was proposing and adapt / adopt / dismiss by committee and went nowhere and ended up as an immature and obstructive piss-take.
Frankly, I'm astonished by the arrogance and elitism exhibited by members of CiA. We have run just three games, none have been perfect, all have been deeply flawed in someway. People have walked out of all three games. We don't know it all, we don't run the best events, we don't have the most experience. It might just be possible that someone knows a better way....
Having been completely demoralised I pushed it to the back burner, then Churchill's pre-prep and game came up and following that UCAP. Josh told me he wanted to go public on Monday with the rules - I wasn't here but as soon as Headshot pointed out he had posted up his new rules (which he has considerably changed from original, and this comes from PM conversations) I put together 'our' rules and got them over to him. The rules you see posted are before he has had sight of ours. Hence his reference to tweaking.
The weekend before the 'Operations' event he is holding a reenactors weekend - the props and structures used for that will be used and part of the 'Operations' event. He has run reenactors private events before and has contacts within the reenactor community - hence his presence at W&P not only selling tickets for D-Day but also reenactor events and selling kit too. I have no idea how much he charges for reenactor private weekends but I have seen photos of what he does and he puts a huge effort into them. Ours are pathetic by comparison.
If chaps who are going to Beltring could have a word with him face to face then it might put things in perspective.
My problem is one of marketing. Our events lead on the scenario and story, painting a picture in player's minds of what they are taking part in - the rules are entirely in the background, indeed largely unmentioned. This I like. Josh has it completely the other-way round - other than the fact it's D-Day and there is a beach involved there is no story. All I do know is the rules. And this betrays the LARP background - rules are what the game is about. If you look at my D-Day web page you will see I have had to major on pictures to 'sell' it as there is so little back-story.
The 'Operations' weekend is even harder to sell without a good 'hook'. Having said that, it would be the ideal venue for Stubblehoppers training day - buildings, props, people. Training on the Saturday, bit of a laugh and bonding in the evening and put it into practise with a game the following day.
Possible outcomes:
We don't get behind it, he gets 200 players, the event goes ahead, we are put in our place as it proves we are not needed, Josh goes ahead with four mega-impressive games next year and we are blown out of the water.
We do get behind it, he gets 200 players, the event goes ahead, we establish that we are needed, Josh goes ahead with four mega-impressive games next year and 2008 is the best year ever.
We do get behind it, he gets 200 players, the event goes ahead, there are 150 noobs, it turns out to be a skirmish in silly costumes. CiA is untarnished as it isn't our event, Josh re-evaluates.
We don't get behind it, he gets 20 players, the event doesn't go ahead, looks like we are being obstructive and have to shoulder some of the blame.
We do get behind it, he gets 20 players, the event doesn't go ahead, Josh loses thousands and re-evaluates, CiA walk away unscathed.
Undoubtedly more perms on outcomes but you get the picture (I hope).

Yep, makes sense. Thanks Dave. I'm still good for CiA's involvement as I don't think we'll be implicated in any failure of the event, however if it's successful we'll be able to draw from the pool of players he's established from the reenactment community. (As has been said before)
