A Quick bit of an inquiry from me, as I can't all the time put a name, to a forum name, to a face, to a face in a uniform, to a person who I spent 3 hours talking to at an event.

How many of the Doughboy people are regular campers at events? Do people many show up on the day, or go down the night before?

For the record I myself am pretty much a camper and will generally go over the night before, even if I live 5 miles away.

Will be camping at gulch and future events.

Only been to Mist at the Mo and that was close enough to drive.

St Lo = camping

Depends on a few things:

- Where
- Weather
- What else I have to do.

He is a camper

Basically unless otherwise mentioned me and Lipton are the same organism that just separate slightly to run around in the woods.

To add to this discussion, perhaps it's worth asking how many of you have original camping kit.

We're just discussing the possibility of asking every to turn up in period or repro tents instead of orange monstrosities. WW2 style pup tents are dirt cheap and are very strong, warm and waterproof. My 1950's one was the only Allied tent to remain completely dry inside (although Yith may be able to correct me).

Have a look for pup tents on Ebay or pick them up at places like Sabre. For less than the price of a modern tent you can have a pup tent that looks original and works better than a £30 one from Milletts.

http://www.surplusandadventure.com/shopscr1163.html (You can get them cheaper than this!)

At the E&E game the evading force will be tentless and will have to sleep in kit in the field (although a olive green bivi bag would be fine).

Yes... My WW2 British Pup tent was also completely dry at Churchill's. Also the 160lber we use is and of course the bell tent have never let me down.... :)

BTW, Ideall doughboys should be getting shelter halves and building big tents like the germans do with their zelts.

Well... 2 halves makes a 2 man tent with one open end. 4 halves makes a long 4 man tent with closed ends.

Plus you can include the half, ropes, pole and pegs in your loadout strapped to the bottom of your doughboy pack. :)

Personally I'll probably just continue to use the big tents as much as possible!

This was one of the reasons I was asking. I was going to see how people thought about kitting up with some original camp gear and stuff (my GI's collectors guide has all the lovely pictures in enticing me).

On the asking front it could put off newer members, especially if they live far away and would have to rely on staying over at an event. I really do see the desire, but that is a discussion for elsewhere.

So for the doughboy campers, do you think some period camp gear would be fun?

Oh and that looks like you're laughing at Headshot Lipton.
