What's the general consensus on the M38 helmet by Deepeeka? I've read conflicting reports regarding the shell and liner. Some say the shells are OK and are the correct 71 size as compared to the smaller sized but similarly labeled repros from china while some say the shells are cr@pola. Some say they have good liners while while others recommend replacing them with barry lindon liners...

I currently have a china repro...Based on the pics below, is the size:head size ratio alright? Is it sitting too high? Is the shape really off? Should i sell this one and buy the Deepeeka? Is the deepeeka that much larger?

It doesn't look too bad if a tad smallish. It does sit a bit too high. You could try getting the liner out to see if there is space to drill new holes. Another thing, a shield decal over field camo is highly unlikely. They would have just painted over the decal, not to mention that field camo jobs were not really seen until way after regulation was changed to single decal.

The general consensus is that a Deepeeka shell paired with a Spearhead liner makes a good budget M38. The Deepeeka shell has a better shape, but the liners are pretty bad.

Most people that talk down on the Deepeeka shells are the type that think only the absolute best on the market will do (i.e. a $600 FJ Werke helmet).

Thanks for the advise! Gotcha on the decals. Put this kit together early on with only 1 book as reference hence the double decals and tan and water smock. But i've always felt the helmet looked too small. So is there a big difference with the deepeeka?

I can't say 100%, because I never had a Chinese helmet myself, but it's said most of the Chinese copies are after a size 68 shell, while the Deepeeka is a size 71.

Turns out a friend of mine has a helmet his wife got him from a US retailer and he say's it's bigger than a china helmet...He doesn't remember the retailer though. Will try it on and maybe trade. If not, Deepeeka it is.
