only an inch shorter mind if you stand on a mound of soil you'll give the appearance of being taller
You long bodied and short legged or long legged and short bodied ? Serious question as I'm curious about you getting kit being a similar height ![]()

dang I'm the opposite long legged (32" inside leg)
I have huge probs getting short people clothes in sizes that erm well fit, the trousers for short people assume you have short legs, and I guess likewise a short body (though thats less of an issue for me) so don't fit properly. I do wonder sometimes who they model the kit on

The time has come for me to find a helmet. Can anyone recommend anywhere to find a decent repro that won't cost an arm?

Not seen one in the flesh but a few of the Ebay HK sellers have nice looking ones with most importantly the correct liner that fits and not sits on teh top of your head like a bowler hat as most of the repros do

Well thats why I asked really, I'd rather pay a bit more to get one that fits right than get a cheapo one that makes me look like a plonker.
Oh dear. FJ helmets. A tale of pain, multiple purchases and constant disappointment.
The biggest problem, without a doubt, is the shell sizing. 99.9% of the repros you see for sale have a shell size that is COMPLETELY wrong for the liner fitted. This means they look rather strange.
Ideally, you need a shell size that matches the liner.
Shell (cm) – Liner (cm)
60cm – 52/53cm
62cm – 54/55cm
64cm – 56/57cm
66cm – 58/59cm
68cm – 60/61cm
70+ cm – 62/63cm
As you can see, from the links that taffpara put up, BOTH of those helmets have liners that are too small for the shells. Then there is the issue of shape. The Hans Sheffield ones are CRAP for shape, Barry's ones are fairly decent.
On both lids though, i've found that the liners suck - they sit FAR too low in the helmet. The only liner ive found that i was vaguely happy with (even though it was attached to a crappy shell) was the Deepeeka one.

Hmm,cant say i noticed that the liners were too small as i just did a quick search
The only thing i know about the realy crappy ones(the bowler hats)to watch out for is that the liner metal band is normaly almost level with the rim of the shell-didnt think these 2 looked that bad to be honest??
The liner band is about the right height, but the leather liner isnt enough of a "bowl" to allow your head to sit high enough in the shell. If that makes sense lol

I see-thanks for the info ![]()
Sounds like I could have alot of fun then...
Hopefully there will be some at malvern this weekend that I can at least try on.
I've had belts from the far east, Underwood and SOF. The far east ones were shite, the SOF ones not *that* much better. The Underwood ones, i'm happy with - good heavyweight leather.

No idea what this seller is like, not used them. Saw they also did the FJ helmets and a few other bits and pieces
so adding them to list

I'm sure there was a thread on this but I can't find it; what boots does anyone recommend for cheap jump boot substitutes?
Gas mask canisters, specific ral code please from those luftie types would be most appreciated
is it just the normal feldgrau ? (think fandanglos might have some of that left from the lids) or is it more blau ?
TA ![]()

I think the FJ had their masks in bags,
Steve.D

indeed they did, after a certain point and indeed I do have a bag. However they were also issued with tins and it was meant more of a general luftie thing, and I stuck it on here rather than start another post
So back to the question luftie gas canister colour please ?

Would be in Lufty blue. Cant remember the RAL colour, sure its posted up on Panzergren.net somewhere. One thing to watch with RAL codes is that they ain't *exactly* like the WW2 ones, due to changes in paint formulation because of various European regulations over the years.
Funnily enough, i cant remember seeing any pics of FJ with metal gasmask cannisters, particularly late war, when they started replacing anything that was metal with kit made of fabric wherever they could - so the metal could go towards more useful things. Got a link to any pics Helga?
