Well the lure of the dark side was too much, so I'm beginning to build a Ramcke brigade fallschrimjager impression.
While looking at eBay I found and bought some y straps, allegded to be original( yeah right  ). But for£10 I thought why not.
Now they turned up, they are very light brown, good quality leather and have numbers all they way down the front of the straps corresponding to the holes. Right under the metal is a small stamped eagle and what looks like either a number or writing.
So the question is what are they? Original but if so what country? Or repro?
I'm going to dubbin them and darken them down.
As for tropical/ Italian fallschrimjager any tips would be great. I'm trying to get as close as possible to accurate.
So far have m38 lid
Tropical shirt, which is so used it looks like it been in action.
Knockensack ( may be changed as its a strum one)
Kar98 bandoleer
And bought from a re enactor bloke a fleigerblouse badged as Oberleutnant
So slowly getting there.

Are you talking about tropical / North Africa here? I ask as the fleigerblouse was not generally worn in Africa. I have a book somewhere, I'll dig it out and post some piccies.

Do you have a picture of the Y straps? do they widen on the section over the shoulders?

Regarding references for kit, may i recommend Fallschirmjager Brigade Ramcke in North Africa, 1942-1943 by Edgar Alcidi

It's expensive (think I paid £50 for my copy a year or so back) but is an absolutely fantastic book with lots of great reference picture and many pictures which I have never seen anywhere else :good:

“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."
Adolf Hitler, November 1942

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

Hard to say for sure without a picture but they sounds like they are post war BGS Y-straps then. Not a bad thing to be honest, its what I use for my FJ impression and they are much better quality that most of the repro ones about! for a tenner you got a bargain.
