If you have any questions about FJ kit, this is the place to ask.

I'm going to work out a list of kit to set up a basic look, if anyone has ideas feel free to post it up.

I'd be most interested in seeing a kit list (argh, what am I saying?? Do I need another loadout??!! ).... there does seem to be quite a variety of kit worn: at least 3 different smocks, and I love the lightweight greens that the Kreta chaps are sporting.

Actually, the main advantage of doing Fallschirmjager (where's my umlaut?) is that you can wear kneepads - my knees are knackered from the w/e!

wear your knee pads under your trousers, wwii kit is baggy enough.

As for kit list, dont forget the big white flags you'll need.

If i could seriously say one thing guys it would be to pick a year and look cos as steiner says its so varied otherwise.

I reckon Normandy 44 makes sense as every game we do will be this or post it.

the odds on a kreta game ever happening are astronomically slim owing to the huge shortage of south african and anzac loudouts sported by the allies and the fact it wouldn't include ss, Americans uk airborne or uk commando meaning 90- per cent of players would need new kit...

Thats why i reckon choosing a look form the word go is the best way forwards.

Its even easier for you guys as only a few people have kit.

If it were me... id say.

Splinter or T&W jump smock (maybe 1 in 10 green ones for the old sweats)
Greygreen jump trousers
luftwaffe blue fliegerbluse
luftwaffe blue side cap
black ankle boots
army pattern webbing in greens and tans with black leather parts.
FJ helmets with either a sand and green overspray or splinter cover.

Its iconic and *most* of you who have the kit have that anyway.

However as i said not my call, i just feel that direction gets things moving, agreeing on kit by commitee means you spend four weeks arguing over which cuffitle to wear.

Late war is probably easiest - as you can wear *any* of the jumpsmocks. This is a basic loadout.

Clothing:

Type 1 to type 3 Jumpsmock. Predominantly Green or Spinter B. T&W was only issued at the rate of 1 T&W to 10 Splinter.
Fliegerbluse
Jumptrousers
Sidecap or peaked cap.
M38 helmet with either a camo paintjob or a helmet cover
Jumpboots (BCH are a decent budget approximation)

Webbing:

Belt and Lufty buckle (late war, it doesnt matter if the leatherwork is brown or black)
Lightweight "Cavalry" Y straps) thinner, with no ability to carry Ruck/A-frame
Lufty Breadbag
FJ gasmask bag.
Mag pouches to suit.

Anything else, like Afrika/Kreta stuff is pissing in the wind until people have the *basic* gear.

What about Luftwaffe Feldjacken? I've seen a late war pic of an FJ wearing one - is that rare?

Only used VERY late war, same goes for FJ wearing full-cut Lids (i.e. M42's and the like)

Get one from Spearhead. For a start, its cheaper, but more importantly, it's in the right version of Splinter camo, which Richards ones aren't.

Ah... that's why it's cheap! Thanks Jay. Heh, SoF have the same incorrect camo pattern as well.

Spearhead's type 3 also comes with embroidered chest eagle. :)

Some photos of you all decked out would be most useful, Herr Major! Jay, when you say BCH boots - are those the Brit high-legged combat boots?

Thought it was "boots, combat, hurts" - if you don't break them in properly, that is!

Andy, they are the first generation Brit high leg combat boots with a direct moulded sole and one-piece uppers (i.e. the "leg section" and the "foot section" are made of one piece of leather, unlike the later assault boots) Can be picked up pretty cheaply.

Thanks Jay. (Apologies for all these dippy questions - I have scoured the net for some decent photos from a reenactment group, but none of them have any - not even FJ6! )

6-mag MP40 pouches, issued to FJ - according to SoF. Is that correct?

Is that the same as British high leg ? http://www.the-outdoor.co.uk/ishop/853/shopscr88.html

I wouldn`t mind seeing some period pics or documentation of FJ wearing these.
As for boots, I tend to wear German para ones, the lace loops are totally wrong but I`d rather be comfortable than wear a pair of Brit army cripplers :)
