Found a few for sale. Genuine Brit' issue (Korea/1953 era) brown 'uns. Fresh from the wooden shipping crate (dated 1953). Square profile bottoms (not a rounded edge) and slightly larger than the traditional camping enamelled mugs. Are these the same patten as WW2 type brown mugs? If so, is £4 each too expensive for non-issues ones in near perfect order?

They sound about right and not a bad price.

My rather beaten up green mug cost me £8 so i think £4 is a good price, WPG does really good repro's in brown for £5 and they are slightly larger than originals so more tea can go in them :P

Yith picked up a load of nice enamel mugs a while ago from a local dealer and they were £1 each IIRC. Still, £4 for any mug is cheap enough - it's something that's actually useful unlike a lot of the other bits and bobs we festoon ourselves with!

I might pick myself up a couple of them then! If anyone else would like one and is coming to either an end-of-month open skirmish at GMA Tudds or to GMAs WW2 recruitment weekend, feel free to post and I'll get you one too.

I believe both white and brown enamelled mugs were issued during WW2.
At one time 50s brown ones could easily be had for around £1 but not any more so try local camping or army surplus shops as they used to do made in china white ones for 99p

Yeah white ones are early war and can be got for about 50p in household stores but were issued for the duration of the hostilities.

Brown ones are fairly classic NWE

Green ones are apparently 44 far east (i have one of those too!)

The shop has now sold out of those cheap mugs... as a result my little store of them is staying with me... :)

if you get the Patrick Delaforce book 'Polar Bears' you'll see members of 49 Recce Regt with white enamel mugs in Netherlands late 44/45....also wearing black berets btw....
