Just a quick reminder, for those that have bought repro Zelt's for use either as a waterproof poncho, or for making Zelt tents.
They will not have been waterproofed
So, you'll need to waterproof them yourselves. I use Nikwax or Fabsil (depending on what I have to hand) If you haven't waterproofed them, expect to get wet ![]()
EDIT
Forgot to say, the brush on type of Fabsil is FAR more effective (not to mention cheaper), than the spray on type. Make damn sure the surface of the Zelt is clean before application, and give it a couple of coats just to be sure.

Argh, the buying never ends!
1 litre ordered.... ![]()

You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
pmsl I'd already considered that and shall be doing it along with the puptents cos I'm not expecting them to be fully proofed either ![]()

Bit of a necro-post, but I've just waterproofed my Zelt ready for D-day +2.
Instead of using Fabsil, I used Thompsons Water Seal (yes the one you use on bricks etc) If you read the tin you will see it is also suitable for tents and canvas and I am reliably informed that it is basically exactly the same stuff as Fabsil only Fabsil is £12 for 1 Litres whereas Thompsons is £12 for 5 Litres!!! Plus I already had a can of Thompsons in the Garage ![]()

Interesting Bosher, you'll have to let us knw how you get on, I need to reproof stuff at some point, as its not been done since last year.
Oh and the wash in stuff is naff IMO the paint on stuff is far better, will have to visit a DIY store (assume thats where you get the thompsons stuff ? )

Yes Helga, you can get thompsons water seal from any diy or hardware store, In 1L size its about £6. It went on really well and soaked into the zelt nicely,no loss of flexability in the fabric once its dry either. I don't know what Fabsil is like but the thompsons is pretty fumey and smelly so apply in a well ventilated place. Will have to wait and see how waterproof it is, whats the forcast for this weekend? Its Wales so its bound to rain!

Thompsons does the job quite well. I did a couple of my Zelts with it before CR. Water didnt leak through the fabric, just the seams lol
PS - best way I found to apply thompsons was to use a 12" roller. Nice and quick then ![]()

Great tip Jay, I'll remember that for next time. Although it only took me about 30 mins with a 3" brush. I did make a point to put it on extra heavy along the seams so we shall see. I will only only be using it as a poncho anyway so shouldn't be a big problem.

Fabsil honks, and ta for reply, shall endeavour to buy some and waterproof those things that need doing ![]()

Dont do this to originals. It makes them leak.
