Shortage of German players?
Yes, there have been training days in the past, recently plans have been made and not come to pass (not least a lack of interest). Someone may have another go next year but in the meanwhile there is no better 'training' than just turning up at an event - but peeps are seemingly loath to do that even!
Actually, I forgot - the IS a training day for you next year: viewtopic.php?f=98&t=11772&p=182271#p182271
Having attended a few training days in the past, it’s a moot point about how useful they actually are in an event! That said, it certainly doesn’t harm to go through some theory, and it is good fun, and a chance to meet people.
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
As mentioned above above, there is a training day for Axis next year, but it is a bit if haul down to Kent from up here in the winter snow & ice.
Personally I'm more interested in doing stuff out of tactical training manuals than shooting people with BBs, but maybe I'm a bit wierd The idea of a training day is appealing, although it depends if you are interested in historical tactics (which don't really work without real weapons) or airsoft 'tactics'.
Anyway, if anyone wants to set up a training day north of Watford....
Cheers

Doesn't sound mad, mate. I attended some great training days in the past - the trouble is that with the larger amount of events happening now, it is difficult to get enough numbers. We tried to organise one last year - we only needed 10 of us, and we couldn't even manage that.

Best training is war. And authentic too , how much training do you think Heer recruits got post June 1944 lol?
If your talking basic movement and concealment skills then practice will work at any airsoft site , or talk to the older hands who no doubt will be happy to help if they think it's worth it ( yes & that's authentic too)
If you're talking squad tactics, really don't bother , they do not work for airsoft in any meaning full fashion unless practiced by the same people over and over again ( yes & that's authentic too)
In the field at our events you are commanded by us the organisers, and the older hands who've been around for years . You don't have to think overly tactically , just carry out your orders ( yes & that's authentic too)
Finally -Shortage of German players? don't think so at our events.
most event sides, new and old gel into an appropriate opponent for each other.
As Old un stated - you can prep, plan and go through a million and one situations - however, it's airsoft everyone know's a bb doesn't kill - so they can walkout pants down with a shottie and still win, at the ends of game play - shit situ, but could happen lol
However - training days can be excellent for getting your mindset into the 40's battle situation
Training days! Hmmm.
I'm just one voice, and I don't want to come across as overly critical or negative, but I'm not keen on them as a general rule. Researching genuine infantry tactics, field commands, squad roles, parade drills etc. etc. is fine in its own right, and in the context of living history displays is absolutely what I would expect to be doing, and here's the 'but'. They are of limited use on the skirmish field, even in a period game, and as an airsofter interested in WW2 my primary motivation in turning up to an event is to play a game of airsoft and shoot people
I remember a training day I went to quite a while ago now, organised by a chap who is no longer with us, and it left me cold. Yes, it was a chance to meet people, and yes, it was a chance to dress up, but virtually the whole day was spent learning how to employ 'genuine' German infantry tactics etc. in the field and respond to square bashing orders, with a little bit of airsofting towards the end - not for me
But hey, each to his own, and I do like the idea of using some German commands or responses - when you hear them being used during the game it certainly adds to the overall 'feel' of the event

do you chaps think you could put a short vid together for german commands and responses? or are there any online already??
I don't know, the lists of commands I've got are all in the Nafziger translation of the German infantry squad tactics manual from 1942 plus the panzergenadier squad manual.
They aren't very exciting: form line, lie down, take cover, shoot etc.
Doing the German commands would add some atmosphere to the game, but could quickly get very confusing.

Having been there war is confusing
If you're interested in spoken german commands, I found an excellent post sometime ago by Tom aka "Sani" on Panzergrenadier.net which has a lot of commonly used commands and at the end of the post is a downloadable sound file. I just checked it and it's still active.

He must have been pretty hoarse by the time he'd finished recording it but it's great stuff if you're interested in learning a bit of battlefield german.

Hi Rammix, I just tried downloading the file and it works fine. The link I used is right at the bottom of the page in red type. If it still doesn't work, pm me with your email address and I'll sending to you as an attachment.

Matey, a truly tremendous link - thanks for that
