Can anyone with an SS book give me some quick advice on how they wore their BeVo cap insigina - i.e. did the eagle and skull just have a small border, etc.

just looked at the library and yes small border around the insignia.
What insignia do you have - seperate eagle and skulls?
Where are you thinking of positioning them - there are a few options:-
1. eagle and skull on the front of cap
2. skull on front and eagle on left side
am sure I've seen other combo's - I do remember a pic of an M43 with double eagle and a skull !!!

the 9th aren't stitch nazi's - just Waffen SS, from reading up on the positioning after your request - sometimes it was down to officer's preference for his lads to wear it this way or that-a-way.
Personally go for what you prefer - The 9th FG will not pull you up about that
