Just found this amazingly informative (and extensive) site which shows you how to put together just about any combination of german webbing.

Interesting to see that there seems to be 3 or 4 ways to attach any one bit of kit and that there's no definitive "right" way to do it.

Kav, you should have asked about this at the PBI game :roll:

I would have shown you correct metal gasmask container wear and also do you have 2 leather/metal belt loops with 'D-rings'?

If you have those you can wear the zelt roll across the belt at the kidneys, using the 2 utility straps securing the zelt roll

I have my zelt attached directly to the belt, just using the button straps on the zelt. It's all in the right place, but the webbing straps were too short - never mind, the hook strap snapped when I got home, so I got some genuine ones off eBay. :D
