...Thanks to Operation haggard I have finally seen the wonder of Pea Dot.
I've seen it before, but never in a combat role, and I must say, it is probably one of the best camos out there. I think I speak for most people when I say DPM F**k off.
So with that in mind my latest load out is gona be Waffen ss I think. The question is though, did they have the SS runes sown onto the collar of the pea dot uniform? I hear different things about this, but I have not yet seen an original picture displaying this.

A pea dot smock like the one pictured goes over the grey tunic and the collar with SS runes are visible. A pea dot tunic was only supposed to have a shoulder eagle, but there are loads of pictures showing soldiers who have sewn collar tabs and whatnot onto their pea dot tunics.

It looks so much better without insignia on it.
It was pretty much disposable as combat wear (in fact losses in combat were so high it was discontinued from issue in Nov44) so you'd be mad to spend hours sewing bits onto it only to get it shredded.
Think of it as camo overalls rather than a full uniform.
Here's an excerpt form my article in last months AI:
"One of the trademark items of the Waffen SS was the distinctive ‘Dot44’ or ‘peadot’ camouflage suit.. look familiar? Well its not a million miles away from the ever popular ‘flecktarn’ you can see on many skirmish fields. These suits are relatively inexpensive and can be sourced from as little as £60 with higher quality copies costing around £150.
The Waffen SS was the first military force in the world to issue camouflage clothing to all its soldiers as standard issue smock in 1937 but by 1944 a new suit had been developed.
This uniform was designed to be worn as an oversuit to the standard field grey tunic and trousers but could also be worn on its own in summer months which explains its ‘baggy’ appearance in photos taken in the hot summer of ‘44.
By 1944 the Germans had ditched the classic ‘jackboot’ and had started wearing more modern looking ankle boots, and here again is where it gets good for the airsofter. Modern British ‘boots combat high’ are a pretty close look alike for wwii German boots and will cost you less than £10 - if you’re a perfectionist you can cut the boot tops down for a more wwii look but your gaiters will easily cover the extra height..
You can complete the outfit with a classic field grey M40 side cap or M43 ski cap… unfortunately they didn’t make a matching camo cap for this suit during the 40s but if you’re not fussed about historical accuracy you can get caps and helmet made up in ‘peadot’ (in German ‘Erbsenmuster’) fabric. One of these practical and comfy caps will set you back about £15.
And finally one of the great things about the dot44 uniform and a real bonus for us as airsofters is that it was supposed to be worn with minimal insignia. In fact the Dot44 suit was very often worn without any insignia at all, "
Hope that helps.
