I have the M40 jacket pictured below, and I wondered if the collar dogs on it are correct, or even if there might be a higher quality type to sew on. The ones already there are fine, but part of the reason I like the German uniform is the 'quality' look and feel of the kit.

Edit to correct for numptyness.

I'd be more worried by the shoulder boards and the gaiters if quality is an issue for you.
The litzen look to be a fairish copy of the 'generic' pattern, it's a bit hard to tell from the picture.

Won't matter colour contrast, once you get it muddy it will all be a varient of "brown"

Collar tabs wise you've late war issue ones on, earlier ones are on felt and more rigid.

Thanks all, I'll see about getting early war ones.

Not too worried about the gaiters, I'll be wearing jackboots!

All looks fine to me.

Remember it was all manufactured by slave labour in a country being bombed to buggery, by the late war you get massive quality drop and variation.

Plus anyone who'se ever had an issue of real kit knows that you rarely get matching stuff even now, the QM throws the correct amount of items at you and gets you to sign for them, weather they match or even fit is not important :)

My first issue of DPM combats were horribly mismatched, the trousers had a very yellow tone to the lighters sandy colours and the jacket had almost 'stone grey' sand colouring.

My webbing was a mix of old and new pieces too.

Over time you swap stuff and aquire replacements if it bothers you - then as now.

You get some genuine original german cam kit with mis matching patterns on the *same item* , some uniforms have shoulder boards that dont match the tunic and all the rest.

Mismatched stuff looks more authentic to be honest.

I wouldnt stress about it.

I'm not anyway, thanks for the info Gadge.

I like the bottle green colour of the shoulder boards, although I might just have to get an M36 tunic at some point. I'm looking for mid-war, really - an iconic impression of the landser, so feldgrau, full webbing, jackboots and helmet decals all in.

I have two field grey ORs shoulder straps with white piping, you can have them if you want them although if you read the 'atthefront' website Rollin reckons any mix of colours is fine.

Actually mid to late war issue, the green backed litzen are 'normally' seen on the 36 style tunic and not often on the 40 pattern tunic seen here. There are exceptions but in an army of millions they are few. You will see early pattern tunics late on. You will see late pattern tunics with green collars but they are few. What you have will do you from mid '40 onwards. You only really need a green collared 36 style for the polish campaign, not many polish army airsofters yet. :P

Not picking on you at all, just expanding a point and adding detail missing from some posts.
He wants to do mid-war and what he has is fine. Poor lad thought he might have to get another tunic. What you have or dont have is not in question.

 Now children...

So the litzen I have are fine for mid '40s landser schutz? That's a load off, I hate sewing! Think I'll keep the 'boards though, I like 'em. Once I pay for my K98 (Tanaka  ), and webbing, I'll move on to decorations - I think after D-day I've earned a black wound badge!
