Well, put mine on, but I'm starting to think I should've stuck with the 'brand new' type as opposed to the artificially aged type. I think if maybe I get some enamel/primer on, and start scratching, they'll look a bit better, but I'm stuck as to what type. The instructions said 'Plastikote', and while I know where to get some, I'm not sure on the exact flavour. I saw a few yesterday which were clear, being enamel and paint, are these acceptable. Don't really want to shell out for something which is useless, or end up painting over them.

Also, does anyone have any pictures of scratched-off decals I can work from?

Unless you are going for the constant parade look,... I wouldn't worry too much. I go through about three pair of decals each season,... but that is because the helmets they are attached to, get a hell of a lot of use,... and I portray the front line look. I have damaged many a decal , just by taking off the camo helmet cover,... the small hook scratching.
Here is a pic from a photo shoot we did in Tiger-1 a while back,... I feel the decal in this photograph,.. for me anyway,.. is how you would expect to find it,... on a grenadiers M35,..from weeks of front line action......

i have aged decals before with a bit of burnt umber oil paint but really there issued new so dont really need ageing and like Nelz says in tiem theyt will age by themselves, if you want to remove some of the decs, try covering with masking tape and then peel it off, this works ok with my decals

DISCLAIMER: dont blame me if it pulls the whole thing of

Kick the helmet around the garden a while. It works.

I have only from my Wehrmachthelmet pics on my PC, but it works also pretty good with a gaslighter and sandpaper......

Tom did me a favour last night and tore the flag decal with his fingernail whilst 'testing' it... He thought I was gonna be mad, but I did the same to the other side and it looks a lot better now.
