I'm trying to see if there is a 'correct' MP-40 pouch colour for each branch of service?? With green, tan and black options available i want to make sure that i get the right one! In the Osprey Waffen SS books, they seem to all be using the tan model, is this just coincidence?? Or did the Heer, SS and FJ use a mostly use one particular colour?? Thanks!

No, you got what you got. LW did have some blue/grey canvas kit issued but by mid war were getting all colours.
Olive green is by far the most common shade found, this kind of colour; http://www.richardaunderwood.com/produc ... cts_id=197 http://www.germanmilitaria.com/Heer/photos/H078961.html
It often fades down to an almost tan shade but thats after 60 odd years.
The next most common is tan, sometimes with web straps, 'tropical' style but not uniquely tropical issue.
Black leather were usually seen in pre war issue for the MP38 but did see very limited wartime use.
Never seen any originals in these colours; http://www.richardaunderwood.com/produc ... cts_id=111 http://www.richardaunderwood.com/produc ... cts_id=110
Luftwaffe stuff tends to be this colour; http://www.germanmilitaria.com/Luftwaff ... 11856.html http://www.germanmilitaria.com/Heer/photos/H079461.html rather than the bright blue of most repros.

Thanks Poacher, i think that the Tan replica's look the closest to the originals - possibly aged by kicking them around the garden to darken them up!

But the originals are just that, aged. Back then they would have had more colour in them.
For a few quid more than tan ones, these are splendid replicas; http://www.richardaunderwood.com/produc ... cts_id=203

Ahhh i hadn't seen those! I was thinking more of the cheaper tan ones that places like epic sell and then trying to darken them up. Those look pretty much the same as the more expensive set!

The Epic ones are £30, I think the extra fiver is well worth it for the nice olive ones. They are a direct copy of the expensive ones, Asian made rather than Czech.

I agree, would rather pay slightly more for good quality pouches, rather than try and bodge it. Thanks Poacher!
