I bought some Jerry braces from SoF, but when I went to fit them on my M42 Keilhosen, it would seem that they don't have any buttons at the front to attach the braces. 
Is this correct, or should I attach the braces to the belt loop button, or should I sew some buttons inside the front of the Keilhosen??

Good question, I normaly wear a belt with mine, the braces where normaly worn with the M37s,

On looking at other models, it seems some had additional braces buttons, but the M42s don't.

why dont you sew some buttons on I prefer braces, the belt pinches under the webbing belt

My German-made M42 have buttons and I use braces. Steiner - you have got the back braces straps haven't you? In which case you just need to sew four buttons onto the inside of the front waist band.

Agreed, there should be two buttons each side at the front, sewn inside for the braces. Not a big job, you just need four hole metal buttons to be accurate but as they are inside who will know what you have used?
The use of braces really does help with the 'look' the trousers hang better. just be glad you are doing german and have elastic in your braces, the Brits have none and they are a right pain.

Anyone know where I can get good quality aluminium buttons for the trousers? the barry lyndon ones are fairly sharp

Try the usual - Richard Underwood, militaria-net, SOF. I've been on all those websites today, and i'm fairly sure i've seen some on at least one 'em.
