Paint it white - then you can use it instead of a white flag this weekend, you're going to need it

Sorry about the thread hijack, just could resist some pre game banter. Unfortunately I don't do German. so can't help.

RAL 6006 is the correct dunkelgrauoliv colour for stahlhelms

You can get it from Zeltplane ebay shop for about £4.00 + p&p. they are very reliable and deliver faster than most uk suppliers! :good:

If you're going to B&Q why not try to find a decent colour photo of a helmet in the right colour and ask them to match it. You'll have to brush paint it as I don't think they mix up spray cans. You could try an auto paint supplier, as they can mix up spray cans, but they only match to colours that cars have been produced in!

RAL6006 is a standard colour code. if you go to b&Q and find someone in Paint who actually knows what they are talking about ,they should be able to find the dulux equivilent colour and mix it with their machine. Make sure its matt obviously.

Ant, I got Halfords to mix me some RAL6006 (olive grey), but they had to send away. My mate told me that Rover Hurricane Grey is also a correct colour, but all of these are gloss, so you'll need to put a coat of silk / eggshell on top.

Tell you what, I have a splinter cover you can borrow - might be easier for this do.

Bit late but standard or acid etch grey undercoat is nearly right and you can topcoat it with the correct colour when you can get it?

just spent the better part of today walking round antique centres in and around sheffield, seen many many german steel helmets and i have to say nearly all were the almost black colour.

Bloody hell, wish i had one place selling militaria around where i live within a 50 mile radius :( :( :(

A lot of original German shells were released from the Czech republic quite a few years ago now-mainly M40s and M42s which were used post war by Czechs civil defence, fire departments etc. Most i saw were all painted black and had liners varying from crude 3 pad leather to the German type seen in the post war Czech m50? Russian type helmets. All of them had weird massive mushroom type liner rivets.
Sof sold them a while back and can remember refurbing a few with repro liners but got so fed up with trying to refit repro liners properly i gave up :( :(

What sort of prices were they selling for?

Any decent paint shop that has either a Dulux or Crown machine can mix up a lot of RAL colours. So long as you ask for an oil based Satin/Satinwood or Eggshell you will be ok.

Had a nice M35 at one time that looked a very dark grey/black indoors but when taken out into the sunlight it actualy looked a very nice greenish(apple?)colour.
