My personal view (not discussed with CiA team or anyone else come to that!)

All charity donations should be a matter of personal choice and not enforced, otherwise it no longer is a donation.
No matter what the cause it may not coincide with personal charity choice or indeed funds in pocket.
To have a 'opt out' clause only instills guilt for refusal or payment through embarrassment - either of which are invidious and not what charities are about.

I don't have any objection to an authorised collector passing round a tin at events of course but not by proxy.

People will pass £20 over the bar and not think twice about it so in my opinion, a little arm-twisting is more than justified. It's about time we had a few games aimed at raising money.

f anyone needs any incentive, I'll try and bring along the lad I just saw: No legs, one arm and not 21 yet.

I'm with Chomley.

If people want to give to charity there are many and varied ways to do this.

Absolutely no problem with someone doing a little canvassing at events though.

I think you need to differntiate between rattling the tin at a game and organising a day where the profit / part of the fee goes to charity.

Personally I'm surprised and more than a little disappointed by the attitudes shown in this thread. I'm sure you all do you bit but if H4H or BL relied on what you call donations, they'd be f***ed.

I guess you don't buy poppies then?

harbone you're missing the point here I feel. what HS are trying to say is some people simply cant afford the few spare quid at times to donate or others have other charities they prefer to support as they feel for that cause. By forcing those people to donate when booking for a game you will create bad blood or stop some players from booking.

if you're so concerned about our poor donations why not run a game yourself where all the proceeds can go to them?

I've just re-read my post and if I p*ssed anyone off can I apologise? I'm sure that everyone on this forum does more that buy the odd poppy.

I'm playing this weekend at Fireball (weather allowing) and am speaking to the other members to try and get a WW2 game off the ground already. I'm going to try and persuade them to do this for the Nov game when we usualy do something for the Poppy Appeal or similar and to do something like add a couple of quid to the game fee that we can pass onto H2H.

Can we count on CiA support for this?

might need to modify that date as CiA have a game planned for november currently, and most of us cant afford the time/cash to do 2 in a month. good show though for doing it.

I always donate on poppy day as a mark of respect. But yes i believe it should be opt in/opt out. ...If ive been approached in a polite manner and its for a worthy cause then yes i will more than likely donate.

But a compulsary donation for me will put people off, especially when we're all trying to save a few pennies.
