Go back a few pages Choc.
Razorlight, if you fancy going into production, I'll have one, it will save me shaving off the goatee beard every time I go to a proper game
I bought one after seeing his work. Can only hope I can do half as good on the paint job.
Has anyone ever tried using a rugby/boxing gum shield?
That's what I use... and it's a lot easier to put on and smaller to carry.
However I have to admit that mask does look pretty good, just not for me!
Hey Jimbo, I certainly don't intend starting a production line. Why not buy one and have a go, I think they're £12.99. The masks are easy to cut and shape. The painting takes the longest, it looked crap when I first did it. I put the mask close ups on as a guide, in case anyone else fancied having a go. You just have to keep stippling slightly different coloured paint on top of the base flesh colour. I think I used 5 different Humbrol colours - flesh, tan, white, dirt brown and burgundy red.
Looking at the pictures again, I'd suggest cutting the strap holes upright rather than angled, as it looks like to strap would sit flatter. I'll bring along on the 21st Feb for the Brittany game, looking like Burt Renolds after his newest face job.
Is it me or do those masks make you look like michel cane.
theres nowt so Permanent as temporary
Made one for the Boy turned out alright pretty pleased with the result. The only problem I faced after getting a really good paint job was the flesh coloured paint started to peel off. Did you undercoat it first?
Mine hasn't started peeling yet, but I haven't used it in anger. What I did before I painted it was give it a really good clean with meths, because the plastic felt pretty greasy. No undercoat but managed to keep my grubby mitts of the surface and painted it with Humbrol matt enamel paints, giving it a couple of coats of matt varnish after. But my experience in the past with painting bike helmets and stuff is that if the base isn't absolutely clean, the paint won't stick properly.
I'll bring my mask along to the Brittany game and try it out. Although I do suspect after a few hits it will look like a nasty case of green acne.
It's a good idea to flash of shiny surfaces with very fine wet & dry paper before you paint them, it helps the paint stay on.

I have got another one on the way for the other lad will try Meths and wet and dry
Usually when I spray or paint plastics I use a primer, usually the grey stuff. But thats mainly for spray since it stops the solvents eating the plastic
I like that any links to a shop that sells and ships to the US?
they sell them at Evike

if that is the same sort, but i think it is.
on the mask subject though, why not dress like the nazi baddie from hellboy? =p
Here's my home-made answer.
One of the below is a genuine WWII British Gas Mask, the other is my patented GasoftMask(tm).
Can you tell the difference?
I recently acquired one of these respirator masks rather cheap (just the mask; straps, lenses, mouthpiece etc all missing) and decided to make a face mask which avoided the NuMetal-Ice Hockey-Shredder from Ninja Turtles plastic mask or one of those Army of Two masks that the Turnips love rocking with their ACUs. I used just the eye mesh, strap and mouth guard (cut down heavily) from a broken NuMetal Shredder mask, and no glue/pins/damage to the original in any way. It doesn't clash *too* bad with my kit (at events where I'm the only one in WW2 gear anyway
)
INB4:
I wouldn't bother with it in field or bush games, but I also do indoor events and it's not just the fact that I'd rather not have to explain the numerous face wounds at work, I just get kinda sick of them. The pain isn't it; more that I don't like spending the week looking like a trailer park meth cook or something.

No, I haven't seen your mummy.
Aaaarrggh, I was trying to put that thought out of my mind! The reference might be lost on Ash though, viz:

Heh, it did make me think of that episode, but old style gas masks generally make me think of Dr. Who bad guys anyway.
