More and more WWII games seem to feature a civilian element. For those of you who want to put the same amount of research into getting your civvy kit as accurate as your military kit, (at least for European games) here is a useful link:

[link]http://www.lacolumna.org.uk/civilian_clothes.htm[/link]

It's from a re-enactor group called La Columna http://www.lacolumna.org.uk who do volunteers from the International Brigade during the Spanish Civil War.

Has anyone thought about doing a SCW game??

The first rule of SCW is: Don't talk about SCW.

The second rule is: No smoking.

I met one of these guys at History in Action a few years ago and I mistook him for a Russian. I recieved a lesson in Spanish history for my error. Then I watched Pan's Labyrinthe and got a new perspective on this period :)

My only criticism is that they are too clean to be freedom fighters.

Nice pictures. I especially like the flasher-mac clad guy following the girls in the top photo. Clearly they had to walk the streets armed to the teeth to ward of potential sex pests.

Hmmmmm. You have a point. You wouldn't have caught John Wayne holding a pistol like that now, would you.

Not easily.

There are places that will tailor 40s style suits but you're looking at £200 for kickoff and I doubt if you'd want to airsoft in a suit anyway.

Best bet is to trawl the charity shops or try places like Primark & TK Maxx. Get a suitable jacket or coat and work the rest of the impression around that.

It depends whether you want "look alike" or "kosher reenactment"

Looks alike is easy enough if you check the charity shops, ebay and such. I put together 20's / 30's kit for live role playing through a combination of charity shops, a couple of trips to camden market and through convincing my misses to make me some trousers from an Simplicity victorian pattern - which was one of the hardest things she's ever made, apparently - harder than making her own wedding dress ! I was playing a down and dirty American character, and my kit was inspired by the TV show Carnival. I managed to find a vintage baseball shirt and added various other bits. I'll post a couple of pics when I'm back on my own PC.

There are some photos here...

Doing full on reenactment kit is harder. As far as I know, you are basically looking at getting stuff tailor made, unless you are lucky enough to find something vintage, and in all my years of looking I don't think I've found anything properly 40's anywhere other than vintage costume fairs.

Pulling off a looks alike civvy partisan outfit for Resistance fighters, SOE or anything similar is easy enough if you just look at the period photos and think carefully about what you buy. I don't suppose anyone has done a costume guide for that yet have they ?
