Can anyone identify this helmet for me? Bought it years ago but can't remember who made it or what type it is. I *think* its ww2 but i'm not sure. Any help appreciated.
Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I thought Czech too.

£10 for a ratty one up to £20 for a decent condition one in a good size - like the one I have for sale.
The chinstrap (there are three variants*) doesn't affect price at all as far as I can see.
*Earliest is just a single leather strap, then they put on additional leather straps to make it into a y-type (this is the rarest) and finally they make the nylon y-strap type your one has. The nylon type seems not to have been issued during the Communist era at all. But that's only really of interest if you reenact CSLA...like I do.

ohhh the one i have strap is rotting though

I've got one of each of the leather types. The one I have for sale became a spare when I found a decent one in my size.

What you could do is take it along to a reenactment fair (check here for dates, locations etc. www.livinghistory.co.uk) and ask around the leather workers if they can do you a replacement.
thanks mate

Actually, I thought of this guy too. Took me a while to find his site again but I've bought a couple of bits off him in the past.
We picked up a couple of these at Beltring a few years ago for £5 each and have been using them for Russian games ever since.

Curiously, the prices of these have gone up - along with most militaria - over the past couple of years.
Mind you I'm old enough to remember when Czechoslovakian helmets commanded prices of over £100. That was before 1989. Collectors who owned one must have been gutted when the wall came down.

Not really Sasha, the reason I have a box of 8 is because we bought them for the Sevastopol game in february ,all assorted sizes ,half with leather y straps, half with nylon and dated from 1946 all good condition from a british dealer at £5 each including postage.

Well, the first thing that occurs to me is you bought in bulk and he may have been glad to get them off his hands. A wander around Chatham Militaria Fair and the dealers at the Bunker Bash the other weekend shows these starting at £12 for a fairly grubby one.
Personally, I'd be extremely suspicious of that date. These helmets were adopted by the Czechoslovakian army in 1952 when they bought some from the USSR (these can be identified by having six small rivets low on the shell as well as the three ones higher up) and then they produced their own from 1953. While both are the same shape as the SSh40 they are thinner. It gives the same protection as the Soviet original it's just a different grade of steel so it can be lighter.
Before that date they were still using the Czech M32/34.

Yep , bought 10 because they were so cheap and ideal for loan kit ,and yes he had quite a lot ,still does but advertised at £10 each now they earlier couple do indeed have 6 redundant rivets plus 3 higher up actually holding the liner, interestingly they are also slightly heavier than the other 6 Czech ones, the other 2 are Hungarian, same shape but much heavier and thicker ,nicer liner too.

I'd be interested to see some photos if you've got them.
