Saw this whilst cruising e-bay >

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fallschirmjager-S ... 767wt_1340

The company seems pukka enough but surely this wasn't a 'correct' pattern ? I'm assuming that it's being sold as a 'film collectable' as opposed to a 'repro WW2 smock' but even so ................. ............. another case of 'Hollywood' rewriting history' ??

Looks a bit like a leibermuster pattern . Difficult to tell from the pic on ebay. V late war pattern, not sure a smock is the correct use for it.

Well it`s not a Fallschirmjager smock, more like a standard infantry smock. Camo looks very odd, don`t think I`ve ever seen anything like it before. Looks reversible though, in the pic of the collar you can see a browner pattern on the inside.

Looks a bit 'rounded' and the wrong colours for Leibermuster imho (no reds, blacks etc) ?

It reminded me of some of the Russian/Soviet Amoeba patterns, but there is an element of 'Splinter' running through it ??

Could maybe have been the result of re-using/converting rollers from one camo pattern to another when the German factories were over-run ? ............... Or just a fantasy pattern ?

Agreed colours arent right. So my guess was a Hollywood version of the pattern, like someone was baseing it on old black and white pictures.

I know I wouldnt be shelling out £350 for it.

Good old kamouflage.net

Think this is it

Bundeswehr-Zelt-Tarnmuster spring-summer

The article even mentions its use in the film A bridge too far.

Nicely spotted Steinlager, so it would seem that this was just a Bundeswehr Zelt fashioned into a smock for the film. :?

Give the man a coconut ! :pompom: :pompom: :pompom:

I'd had a quick look through Kamouflage but hadn't spotted that one, well done !

As Slick says, probably a remodelled Zelt then, so ...................

It's the wrong pattern/period for the film, and it is not a FJ smock :slap:

That's exactly what it is. And exactly what was used in the film. Once we had the idea to 're-enact' A Bridge too Far'. I bought a few of the zelts in this pattern to convert to the smock.
Back then they were very cheap. The conversion never happened as the group splintered. More vandalism against historic garments avoided. They now fetch 6-10 times what I paid.
If you watch the vehicle assault on the bridge you can see the smocks quite clearly.

How strange, I've never noticed that before! Mind, it takes a bad/boring bit of film or TV for me to notice and critique kit.

I have a 4 pocket tunic/jacket made in the same stuff i picked up many years ago with some other bits and pieces-no idea if it was used in the film as there are no markings on it.

Late last year on Ebay a near identical smock sold for from memory around the £30 mark so either someone got one hell of a bargain or got stung royally

The pattern was only used officially on zeltbahn so the tunic is a custom job.
