If you have a word with the chap at Component Shop he might be able to put in a flat strip instead of the wire, he`s normally fairly good with modifications. :good:

Just spoke with them and they stated that they are now starting to use the flat strips in all their batteries, might have a few round strips in stock but if you request flat strip this is no problem,

just ordered a 8.4v 1600 MAh stick

will keep forum updated when arrives

thanks again for all your input

There's that... but there's also the sight and the safety should be a push one.

Here's the correct sight: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/M1-CARBINE-EARLY- ... _500wt_922

I've got the sight and barrel band right on mine, but the safety is still the twisty version.

Warning... these bits won't just go straight on... it'll take some effort to get them to fit! The replica seems to be quite different from the real steel.

When fitting the barrel band it's best to take the wood off, undo the 4 screws holding the outer barrel on and slide that off forwards rather than trying to take the front sight off.

I didn't fit the alternate rear sight myself, but I think the person who did it had to use some glue.

Got a swedish 1944 tunic from ebay for £5, going to chop down to wear under SS camo smock for summer. Take off sleeves and bottom part below waist. Collar needs some minor alts plus replace swedish buttons for pebble type, but a cheap alternative to buying repro tunic to cut down. Strange thing the pockets on the back are much browner than the rest of it, so not much use if you wanted to convert the whole tunic.

Got a postwar Russian waterbottle and cover off eBay. Now I just need to figure out how it is supposed to attach to my belt so I can actually use it to drink from! I might cheat and put a snap clip on it.

Cheers

Don't do that!!!

Is it like this one?

If so... just slide it onto the belt. The loop that goes over the top and fastens to the button on the front is also the belt loop.

To remove it from the belt without taking the belt off... just undo the button. Reverse the operation to put it back.

Battery just arrived, I asked for a shorter connector wire as well, fits in the Sten no problems

Thanks, I wondered if that was how it was supposed to work, I was just concerned that the whole weight of the thing when full is hanging off one diddly little button. I'll just have to check the button thread is in decent nick.

Cheers
Martin

The loop also goes over the top of the bottle... it's that the weight rests on. The button just holds it in place and shouldn't take much weight.

The loop also crosses over on the rear to create a slot that the bottle neck fits through to grip it. Clever for such a simple item.

Yes, I can see how that would work.

I'm obviously too used to over-engineered German stuff :)

Soviet stuff is often simple, but very clever. Just wait until you see the glorious veshmeshok backpack and plash palatka raincape/shelter.

The pack really is so simple in design, but is far quicker to open and close than anything the brits or yanks had.
