All sorts of random stuff that I can't remember over that past weeks, but latest stuff include:

Two MkIV Fuller phones! Beautiful condition. Found at a vintage comms' fair. £25 each, which I deem to be a touch on the bargainous side.

Yet another Type F MkII field phone, very dusty and without its transit box, but overall great condition. Didn't want another, but couldn't resist for £5. Vintage comms' fair again.

Vickers MMG spring balance multi-tool, from Doncaster carboot - £4.50

Repro' Royal Artillery printed shoulder titles, from The Old Time Design Company/The Ministry Of Mugs. They're a lot stiffer than originals, and the stiff cotton used leaves a white edge where cut and a white 'vein' where folded. And they cost me £10 for the pair. Not overly impressed especially for the price (considering embroidered ones are £4-£6 a pair), but they've a very wide selection of printed titles (not many people repro' printed insignia for Brits') and will do custom ones to order, so I suppose I shouldn't grumble too much.

I have ordered some Aussie pattern JG's, a puggaree for my hat and an Australian Red ensign.
If there ever is a Pacific game, I will be fully prepared now.
Why a red ensign I hear you ask? Australia didn't fully sort out their flag issues until 1954. Up until this point, the Australian Blue ensign was used on government buildings but was not used anywhere else. The Union flag was still a popular choice but when the army needed to differentiate themselves from the British army they eventually decided upon a red ensign rather than the blue on the basis that a blue flag looked more like the Navy. The Australian Navy of course used a white ensign.

Those choclates are VILE, but it tickles me that they're still getting made for us nut-cases. :giggle:

Won a bid on a 1943-stamped Canadian Webley holster to the tune of £30, including shipping! Take that, Soldier of Fortune! :happyswing:

New Puggaree, BEF water bottle holder and Aussie pattern Jungle greens

Unfortunately the water bottle hides the location of the field dressing pocket, which is one of the main differences between British and Aussie KD and JG trousers. The other differences are that there is no large map pocket on the leg and there are 3 belt loops instead of 4.
If it hadn't been raining, it might have been possible to see that the main difference in the shirt is the fabric. The British shirt is Aertex, which allows better airflow and has a more textured appearance, the Aussie shirt is heavy cotton drill.

I actually picked it up off eBay. I know they usually pull the listings for them off pretty quickly but it was a wooden one at a good price so I grabbed the buy it now option quick!

A plash actually makes a very good look-like groundsheet. Seems to take up much less space than the actual British one, is twice the size and actually waterproof! The colour isn't a bad match either.

Cheers

MartinR, exactly. And huge difference in price for me, 50£+shipping (from Cost a fortune) compared to 10€ for me. The functionality (it's actually waterproof! ) also a factor. Now I have to just learn how to fold it under the flap...

Now I have to just learn how to fold it under the flap...

I am sure it is possible to do it in the approved manner, but I cheat. Fold it into an oblong which lines up with the sides of the small pack, and then shove most of it into the inner pocket of the small pack (the bit nearest to the wearers back) leaving a suitable length to stick out of the top of the pack behind the two small inner tabs and fasten down behind the flap buckles.

There is still bags of room in the pack, and you don't have to figure out how to fit a huge piece of cloth under a tiny top flap.

This works for both a plash a rubberised ground sheet.

Cheers
Martin

From a junk clothes stall at a music festival this weekend:

Ammo boots, size 10S, post war dated, but in lovely non-bulled and 'non-third sole added' condition - £10

Repro (Sturm, I think) German splinter camo' paratrooper bandoleer. Quite a random thing to find at the bottom of a cardboard box full of generic camouflage clothing! - £3

Got a few bits to round off my paratrooper kit. A new mkii gas mask bag, a plash palatka (my make do groundsheet), fairbairn sykes knife and sheath.

All ready for Loose Cannon, though will get a clasp knife with lanyard by then too.
