Just received my new batt charger and generic leather rifle sling, which is in fact a correct spec M1 Garand sling, with the two claws. Not bad for a tenner or something off Z1, and the leather is supple and a nice colour, unlike the BAR sling from SoF.

Further to this post, just received my MP40 slinf from SoF, which, once again, is below the standard I expected. Same as the BAR one, rough, painted, stiff and smells a bit too. And it was £5-10 more expensive than the Garand one from Z1.

Still, as I'm a 1944 infantryman who's picked the MP40 up off a corpse, I can say its a 'late war' sling, made with crap materials by Russian PoWs to a poor standard...

T-45 nose-mic, a friend brought a cheap lot of tanker intercom gear.
He sold me one of these late-war style mics.

I've worn some before for about half an hour during a mockbattle and they absolutely suck! My skin under my nose and around my ears was raw.

I'm just gonna chuck it in my display case and stick to wearing my throat mic.

Just turrned up. MG42 tripod. Feckin' awful packaging, but you cant fault its design and build, no damage to it all during transit from Deutschland - a testament to German engineering. Heavy bugger, i'm sure its a few more Kg's than the WW2 ones. Right, all I need now is to find some silly sod stupid enough to carry it for me....

PS: 'scuse the state of the garage, its like a tip at the moment.

If you dont mind me asking, how much did it cost you all-in Kermit?

Did it come compelte with the nice Hendsolt periscope and light kit?

Have you tried an MG42 on it yet? when I brought mine a few years back, my Shoei would not clamp on properly. On close examination I found that the front forks had been bent slightly (probably dropped out the back of a truck of something) which was obviously why it had become "surplus"

It was a pretty simple job to fix, just stripped it down and straighted them with a bit of blow-torching and a hammer!

good as new now, im kind of regretting selling my MG42 lately

“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."
Adolf Hitler, November 1942

"Comrades, Red Army men, commanders and political workers, men and women guerrillas! It is on your perseverance, staunchness, fighting skill and readiness to discharge your duty to the country that the defeat of the German-fascist army and the liberation of the Soviet land from the Hitlerite invaders depend! We can and must clear the Soviet land of Hitlerite vermin."

Well lewis as the section NIG it's *technically* your job mate.

(note: you're going to get the gimpy/minimi/lsw/law94 *all* the time when you're at battalion until a guy joins whose younger/newer than you :) )
