OK bit of an open ended thread this one .
As people who put on games , we realise we have ot cater to a wide range of tastes and expectations . So tell us them !
What makes WWII events special to you ? Some thoughts we've had are :-
Plot and gameplay,
historical accuracy or fictional scenario?,
location- historical , Urban or Woodland ?
vehicles , props and odd subplots ( such as the Nazi Gold at Arnhem)
a bit of humour (Maddona with the Big Boobies!)
the cameraderie ?
Would having more rigid teams help or hinder?
Day games or more 24 hourers ?
Numbers of players make a difference of prefer smaller more intense game ?
Is cost a big issue, or OK as long as it's seen as value for money ?( by this I'm thinking for example if we hired some WWII vehicles would you think it would be worth the expense, or would it just be expensive eye candy ?
There's lot of elements that make up a good event , all of which will be a melange of the above, but give us some pointers as ot whats important or not to you . I'm not saying for one moment we can accomadate everyones expectations but if a theme occurs then we will look ot take it on board. And no don't expect Bovingtons Tiger ot roll inot view , somethings are beyond reach no matter how much we might want them !
Over ot you !
i personally prefer
historical accuarccy, but not stich counter level, just something like.
having a good laugh (above all else)
days or 24 hours , i dont mind
vechles would be great , the more the better, but cost is a problem (not cost of events cost of vechles in events )
LOTS OF BANGS
cost of events not a problem, if its a good event, its worth paying for
and above all camraderie and a feeling of freindship with fellow players

I have never played a WW2 airsoft game but i would like Urban stuff, vehicles.(Tigers )
If its passed 9 there is a 95% chance im pissed.
Only been on one WW2 skirmish/event so far but heres my 2p.
plot and gameplay: fairly important too me as its what seperates this from a open day blat fest.
Historical accuracy: its nice to be semi accurate but totally open to bending to facilitate a good idea.
location: doesnt bother me other than the obvious like dont use a wooded site for the attack on a town
vehicles and props: loved the ones at churchills. truely fantastic though wouldnt expect them to be as amazing at every game. too much of a time killer I imagine. plus as long as it looks roughly like what its supposed to be im not bothered.
sub plots: always a nice little addition to add further dimension to the game
Humor: great fun always though some games obviously its more difficult to include than others.
the cameraderie: very important. camping the night before at churchills with the 4 of us round the fire was a fantastic experience. makes you play more realistically as a team IMO.
Rigid teams: depends on the scenario to be honest. EG at churchills i was expecting us to be split up more as we were misdropped. but on a scenario like wotan you would expect to be fighting together more from the start.
day or 24hr games: dont mind either way
cost: not a big issue within reason. if the costs justified I dont mind one bit.
As I said only done one ww2 event so far but loved it. really set itself apart from the regular open days I had been to. So much so I sold all my modern kit to fund this further. Im fairly easy going when it comes to scenarios etc which is probably reflected in my answers above. Because really that way Im open to a variety of scenarios rather than one specific line. Its nice to get to try a bit of everything.

ok location i like either, urban is more friendly to my joints and nose however, as woodland terrains often mess with my back, and the grass and tress etc makes me itchy and sneezy due to allergies.
cameraderie is ace having time out to chill and have some down time makes for a more pleasant play. for which we would need more time to do this so i like both day games and 24hours...more time away from home is the thumbsup
urban would generally mean more numbers, more people to shoot and more chance of taking it easy in some way than having to worry that there arent a large numer of troops so have to constantly re-gen to gain a chance at the objective...
cost is not an issue...things which make any game better by vehicles and the like are a bonus, even perhaps setting time aside to have photoshoots where perhaps every player gets a chance at having some memorable photos with props etc taken . think that would be nice. i dont mind paying a few quid extra on a deposit or play if it means something explosive so to speak...as long as i get a job soon
anything i have left out the post means im generally not bothered either way, or i wouldnt like it
Plot and gameplay, 9/10
historical accuracy or fictional scenario 6/10
location- historical , Urban or Woodland -prefer woodland
vehicles , props and odd subplots ( such as the Nazi Gold at Arnhem) love subplots the 'finding private brian' at caen was good, also subplots give added depth to a scenario.
a bit of humour (Maddona with the Big Boobies!) YES YES MORE BOOBIES
the cameraderie ? Cr was excellent fosterd undoubtedly by adverse weather
Would having more rigid teams help or hinder? depends on the scenario in warfare it is difficult to stick together all the time.
Day games or more 24 hourers ? I liked the 24 hourer a lot but it doesnt really matter
Numbers of players make a difference of prefer smaller more intense game ? I would like to see bigger games especially in woodland.
Vorsprung durch Blitzkreig !
Speed, aggression and Hugo Boss
the innocent have nothing to fear......[img][/img]
Plot and gameplay - 9/10 - probably most important.
historical accuracy or fictional scenario - 7/10 - nice to be historical, but not essential
location- historical , Urban or Woodland ? 7/10 - a variety of sites is nice.
vehicles , props and odd subplots ( such as the Nazi Gold at Arnhem) - 6/10 - adds a bit of interest
a bit of humour (Maddona with the Big Boobies!) - 5/10 - not bothered.
the cameraderie ? 8/10 - it's great playing with people you've got to know.
Would having more rigid teams help or hinder? - 6/10 - don't think it matters - it's nice for people to have freedom to choose.
Day games or more 24 hourers ? - both - a variety again. Just fix the weather next time!
Numbers of players make a difference of prefer smaller more intense game ? The bigger the better, in my opinion.
Is cost a big issue, or OK as long as it's seen as value for money ?( by this I'm thinking for example if we hired some WWII vehicles would you think it would be worth the expense, or would it just be expensive eye candy ? 7/10. If the vehicles etc can be utilised in the play, then great. If they are just eye candy, then I'm not bothered.
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
I haven't played a WW2 game yet and am really looking forward to my first experience at Wotan, so these are my GUT feelings - they may change - please bear in mind as well, I've only played TWO open day games to date - I'm very green - but not necessarily well camouflaged -
Location - not fussed, urban or woodland, but think I would enjoy built environments better if anything
Having a broadly factual historical scenario to build the game around I think is important, subplots - definitely a good idea - I think they would afford the game added dimension
For me, having people kitted out in, broadly speaking, historically accurate gear is certainly important - it's why I'm interested in WW2 'softing and the main thing which sets it apart from general airsofting
Comradeship and friendship - definitely important - it's all about FUN and enjoyment and liking the people you're shooting at -
Numbers - well, all of the above being true, and if the event is well organised, I'm not bothered one way or the other
Day events versus 24 hour + marathons - personally, the closest I get to camping is staying in a B+B - I make no apologies for being a wuss -
Ergo, I prefer the idea of shorter events - or to have the option not to sleep under canvas
As for cost - again, I don't mind paying for something that is well organised and fun, however, I think it's important to try and keep the cost down bearing in mind many people will have to travel and spend money on other things in addition to the game itself
Looking forward to Wotan, and being able to form better opinions based on that experience -
Keep posting all !
My thought, bearing in mind CR was the first airsoft event i've done:
Plot and gameplay - Very important, it makes a game much more than just a few random 'capture x' or 'defend Y' situations that you can start to lose interest in if there's no cohesive story behind it.
historical accuracy or fictional scenario? either is good, as long as it's not *too* far fetched if fictional.
location- historical , Urban or Woodland? Again, either is fine, as long as the buildings can at least pass for looking like ww2 constructions.
vehicles , props and odd subplots Good, as long as they're not overdone. there's limited uses for vehicles in airsoft, but the 101 at CR was a nice touch. Subplots are nice in a big game with lots of people, but in smaller games can detract too much from the main plan.
a bit of humour (Maddona with the Big Boobies!) always good, as long as not taken to extremes and turns the game into a joke. Although it's just a game when all's said and done, it's a nice part of ww2 airsoft to lose yourself in the moment, and actually think what it was really like to be sat in a hole in europe fighting for your life.
the cameraderie ? At CR was fantastic, even though we had to medevac gadge on saturday night, so missed the sunday, the german side had such a great sense of cameradery, helping each other out, organising tea for each others while we built the fire, it almost negated the god-awful weather!
Would having more rigid teams help or hinder? it'd probably help, but i don't think i'd want to be tied to one side permanently. At CR i was Heer, but at Wotan i'm on the Allied side, and i think it's great that i can pick and choose on a game by game basis.
Day games or more 24 hourers? I'd prefer more weekenders, purely because it adds more to the experience to do the living history bit as well as the airsoft, and camp out using the kit available at the time.
Numbers of players make a difference? CR was a great size (at the start at least!) but numbers aren't important as long as the people are comitted to the theme of the event. I'd rather see 20 or so people a side really getting into the spirit of ww2 airsoft and getting the most out of it, than 50 or 60 a side just going along because it's an airsoft event and not really giving a toss that there's a ww2 element.
Is cost a big issue? within reason, no, but like i said earlier, there's a limit to what you can do with vehicles. A couple of landies did perfectly well at CR. a couple of jeeps would have been more accurate, but i've got a soft spot for landies anyway, and they were ex-mil and close enough to suspend disbelief easily.
Can't see what you'd be able to do with tanks/big stuff really, other than a one off set piece with pyros. Then you get the problem of the vehicle owners not wanting you lobbing pyros (or even bb's in some cases!) near their pride and joy!
Anyway, hope that helped!
I haven`t managed to get to a CiA event yet due to working weekends, I`m easy going on most of the issues.
The problem I`ve got living in Cornwall is the travelling involved to get to an event so I`d prefer weekenders so I can justify the fuel cost.
Q. Plot and gameplay?
A. Preferably Semi or fully acurate and about the same time of year as the WW2 battle it is based on.
Q. Historical accuracy or fictional scenario?
A. Preferably Historically acurate,
Q. location- historical , Urban or Woodland?
A. Realistically games have to be run on existing sites, but type of terrain isnt important.
Q. Vehicles?
A. A nice touch, but if they arnt available, no worries.
Q. Props and odd subplots ( such as the Nazi Gold at Arnhem)
A. A nice touch, but not essential.
Q. A bit of humour (Maddona with the Big Boobies!)
A. A nice touch, but not essential.
Q. The cameraderie?
A. Its an exelent aspect, one that makes these games alot better than open days, here you at least know folk by sharing an interest, if not friendships forged on here.
Q. Would having more rigid teams help or hinder?
A. No, for me to be able to enjoy an event I have too feel its optional who I go as and wether or not I go, other wise its another re-enactment group.do and
Q. Day games or more 24 hourers? Either, but it depends on work commitments at the time.
Q. Numbers of players make a difference of prefer smaller more intense game ?
A. Not as long as the rules are enforced, but it did get a bit silly at arnhem.
Q. Is cost a big issue, or OK as long as it's seen as value for money?
A. It depends what I am getting, but Vintage vehicles arnt that important, after all, we all know what a jeep or kuble look like so using a lightweight instead wont hurt that much.
Some really good comments coming in , thanks for taking the time to post them through !
hi,
i played the Arnhem game and it was ace. i think that was spot on. so i like a mix if woodland and urban so not fuss'd. i prefer 1 day events to weekends due to work. historical accuracy is not a biggy (6/10). i think i would like a mix od scenario's like historical true events so each is fighting make the outcome same as history tells but i would also like some made up scenario's where no one knows which side will win. maybe a few more motors would be nice but not essential. costing is not a problem with me obviously don't charge stupid amounts. oh nearly forgot props & sub-plots are a good things to have adds more meaning to a overall goal in my opinion. one thing i would like is more events closer as half the events i cant even attempt to get to (imo). teams wise i like the idea of a unit being assigned and sticking wit those people and getting to know their strengths & weakness's etc. atmosphere wise Arnhem had it down to a T.
thats my gernalised thoughts.
