As part of my slowly developing collection of kit I'm seeing something of a theme developing. One that would benefit from eye protection with a specific type of look. that look being the sort of goggles worn by motorcyclists and motorists of the 1930s. An initial google/bing has not brought anything that captures that look. (it maybe that my google/search-fu is weak again)
Anyone here seen anything suitable out there that is assured airsoft safe? Or if you use something similar what do you recommend or did you make/adapt them yourself? If you self made, what should I be looking for in construction? What materials to use?

I recently bought a pair of http://www.rsov.com/express/product.php ... &cateId=95 to see if they were safe for airsoft use. To verify their safety I shot repeatedly at them with a 550 fps gun from a distance of 3 inches and it held up. The exception was a bb that hit the plastic frame around the "glass". It made a hole and through the frame and would have hit my eyebrow and bounced around inside if I had been wearing the glasses. But given the slim possibility of being hit with a that powerful bb in a very small area, I feel safe enough using it and recommending it to others. It is also available with a dark or yellow lens color.
That doesn't sound very safe to me! I'm amazed you'd recommend them!
Neillblume bought a pair of forestry mesh goggles called Bug Eyez
http://www.treegear.com.au/?view=produc ... ategory=12
They don't have a British Standard kitemark but Neill did some close range tests with a Tanaka and he judged them safe to wear. They certainly seem a lot sturdier than the cheap mesh goggles that ARE approved for airsoft.
Weirdly even the British Standard only seems to cover lenses not the frames. I've had two pairs of Guarders that have had frames shatter on imact yet the lenses are impervious to atomic attack.
Heh, I wouldn't recommend random HK brands frankly. The ESS glasses issued to British Forces seems to be recommendation enough for me. Now then, where is that fantastic guide GuzziHero wrote a few years ago detailing all the BSI specifications for safety eyewear?
Proper spitfire pilot type one are 'bulletproof' (well splinterproof) and were worn by recce crews occaionally if you want some truly 'period' eyeprotection thats safe... if they will stop shell splinters im sure they will stop BBS..

The lenses on the Halcyon goggles are very tough laminate and conform to british standards for motorcycle protection. Mine have had all sorts of high speed impacts from grit and debris while on the motorway with not even a scratch on the lenses.
This guy does goggles with mesh, not quite motorcycle goggles but might be close to what youre looking for. I've got a pair, theyre pretty sturdy.

They held up just fine to more normal 330 fps bbs. The point is I don't expect being hit at point-blank range with a 550 fps bb, and even then it stops those aimed directly at the eye. I mentioned the exception to allow others to do their own conclusion - personally I feel safe enough to use them.
An area I havent investigated yet is how they perform with respect to condensation inside the glasses.
i had a pair of british saftey standard glasses cracked whilst wearing them ,at a shitefighter game back in 2005 a scumbag opened up with a hot minimi at 5 m range and gave me a burst accross the glasses , so much for not aiming at the face, i covered my face with my hands till he`d ceased fire and gone, funny enough he wasnt at the game at the end of the day or he would have had his mouth filled with my homemade shoe pie and knuckle sandwitch.
i dont trust any saftey specs completely 100% (maybe 97%) , its just part of the risk of playing

The heroshark goggles look generally good. The Halcyon ones do have that something though. I've seen the cheeper copies around but was dubious about their airsoft viability. Chrome plated Brass and leather with shatterproof lenses. True that they are bit more that I was expecting to pay for something that is in part meant to be sacraficial (in that it dies to save my eyes, see Joseph Porta's comment for proof), but with replacment lenses available...
I feel a birthday purchase comming up.
Any in the field reviews and experiance with these?
While normally a glasses wearer, I do wear contact lenses for gaming where possible so if any contact lens wearers care to comment that would be good.
Sorry to be a pain with the 97 questions but obviously when it comes to protecting our eyes, its one area we do need to be particularly fussy about

There are usually " Anti mine Goggles " on Ebay ,they are about 1/4" thick perspex ,ex army, and usually between £5 and £10 ,a little bit bulky but look the part andcertainly bb proof.
I was trying to find some US aircrew goggles as used in a certain film but they are quite expensive.
So I bought a pair actually used in an other film Hannible Rising by the T34 crew from

Shucks, missed that one. Never mind, I have just won a pair of genuine Halcyon goggles.

Alas I live in a small 3rd floor one bedroom flat so no place to do any such work. Otherwise I would be modding like crazy.
