Well, I collected my goggles from the sorting office today. Halcyon mk 9 low profile
Very solid. Quite comfy. I may glue some suede to the inside for a little more comfort.
The lenses are held in with a very strong clip on one side. I problerbly will not be able to test them for a couple of months due to a larp event and glastonbury festival comming up. When I do, i'll report back my results.
To the tune of "Mademoiselle from Armentières"
Napoleons army ran away, As you do
The guard stood firm for Frances Pride, As you do
They said the guard will stand and die
But we heard what their Colonel cried
It wasn't pretty I tell you.
Resistance is fertile
I was trying to find some US aircrew goggles as used in a certain film but they are quite expensive.
So I bought a pair actually used in an other film Hannible Rising by the T34 crew from
http://www.propstore.com/product-Russia ... oggles.htm...
I changed the lenses to pollycarb and they are fine now.
You were robbed....I could have sold you a set of the wartime style metal frames for less than that.

PS the lenses are not any sort of plastic or laminate. they have got some kind of coating that makes them feel a bit strange but are, otherwise, just glass and crack at the slightest provocation.

Yes but I didn't know you a year ago and you don't appear in a google search. The ones I have are the actual pair used in the movie not just some more taken out of a sack.
I have changed the lenses to polly so they are fine now.
The price I paid is cheap compared to other stuff of a similar style.
These are really Russian Tank crew goggles not aircrew hence the frame is different and less bulky, they are the closest thing to the US WW2 aircrew goggles I could find for under £100.
These are the genuine article I was after and quite rare!

Free speech is expensive these days!
WPG do reproduction M1938 Resistol goggles.
I'm thinking about getting a pair and also the reproduction HS-23 (R-14 receivers and wiring loom with PL-54 plug) for my M1938 Tanker Helmet.
Pricey though and they will have glass in them to change.

They do look easy to make with tin snips etc.

I genuinely am shocked about the price being cheap. You see, to us, these are cheap as chips and you can pick them up loads of places.
For interest while the style I showed were originally intended as aircrew goggles they became the de facto goggle for everyone who need them during the war. So you see them in use by vehicle crews and post war they're the only type made which is why they're so plentiful and cheap.
These are what I was after
