Can anyone point me at some (ideally free) period maps for prop puposes.
I can only find ones with big troop movement arrows and other naff lines all over them.
Axis or Allied?
I've quite a collection of British/Commonwealth Military OS Maps, but mainly of the homelands, and very few operational/theatre-of-war ones (well, most of mine were produced late 30s early 40s when Britain was half expected to become a theatre-of-war! You could get away with buying old '20s/'30s/'40s civilian OS maps of somewhere obscure in the British Iles and fold them so that only the actual map part is showing? See if there's any if your local thrift/charity store brought over by ex-pats.

I looked for maps myself lately and came across The Godfrey Edition maps. I was looking for d-day maps. These one are maps from the preparation dated April 1944. I found them quite interesting as they are showing all the fortifications.
Oh, good point! His reprints are available here for not-very-much money: http://www.alangodfreymaps.co.uk/dday.htm

Thanks for the link McVickers, I wasn't looking for maps, now I've bought some
Hehehe, I found they make ideal christmas presents for others who are like-minded to us....

If you want to just print them yourself:

Good site worth knowing indeed. I would definitely recommend one of Alan's maps though. Very well finished, nice look to them and they are very cheap! I have sorted Christmas and birthday's for the rest of the year now
That's more like what I was looking for
Dammit, they don't have Cardiff.
They do but I was hoping for #109 including the Vale of Gamorgan where my mum now lives.
Alas it was on my old pc, however online (cannot recall url) WW2 GERMAN maps of the UK as well as other places.

I'll have a look through my collection of period military OS maps of the UK, I think I have a lot of Wales - If I have the VoG, I'll get a scan of it done for you.
UPDATE EDIT: I've got 107 (North East London) and 108 (South End) from the righthand row above, but not Sheet 109! I've know of other OS resources, though; what is the nearest town/village to your Mum's home?

If anyone is going to be ordering any maps from 'The Godfrey Edition', best get your order in soon as they're raising their prices (though they're damn cheap already and the price rises are minimal):
"After several years selling our maps for £2.50 and with the increase in print, postage and packaging, we are increasing our map price to £3.00. Coloured edition maps will still be at the same price of £3.50. The price increase will be in effect from Tuesday 15th March 2016. Price increases are always regrettable, but this will help secure the future of the series and enable us to develop it further."
